Avery's POV              1400+ words

I lay mostly still on the large hammock I was lying in. Hudson was asleep on my stomach, snoring ever so gently. It was the like the sound of an ocean wave hitting the sand and drawing back in, capturing everyone's attention.

That was Hudson alright. He caught everyone's attention. Or so I'd like to think. He would walk down a sidewalk on a chilly autumn day, holding my hand with slightly pink cheeks from the cool breeze. His eyes would glisten at the smallest things.

He was fascinated by almost everything. That's what being kept away from humanity does to you. It makes you curious about everything. He would point out a shop with a colorful sign and giggle at me, with glistening eyes, pleading for an answer.

Some people seemed confused, but I'm pretty sure they admired the way his face would glow from certain angles when the sun hit it. The way his nose curved perfectly into his face and the child-like smile that danced on his lips when he saw a new animal or store.

It was nice, though. Teaching him was fun. He wasn't rude about it or anything, either. It was sort of playful, like a toddler finding a new toy they liked and getting quickly excited by it. His laugh was nice, too. Like the gentle drizzle of rain tapping against your window on a dark, cloudy day.

I was interrupted from my thoughts by hearing a soft murmuring sound from Hudson. It startled me at first, but he started to smile and I realized he was probably dreaming. I repositioned my foot on the floor and began to rock the hammock at a slow pace to keep Hudson asleep.

I started using my finger to trace spirals and other random shapes along his arm. This was calming to me, in some way or another. I felt relaxed just being around him, but this made me feel safe in a way. Like there was nothing bad in the world.

I took my other hand and started to twirl his thick, brown hair on my index finger. This was another relaxing thing. Sitting in silence and playing with your lover's hair. Calm. Relaxing. Nothing but the way their body moved up and down as they breathed silently, or sighed contently.

I was, once again, interrupted from my thoughts as a rain drop fell onto my cheek. I frowned. I didn't know it was supposed to rain today and I wasn't planning on waking Hudson up until he woke up himself. I didn't want either of us to get soaking wet, so I did try to wake him up.

I lightly stroked his cheek and called his name gently. He shifted slightly, but didn't wake up. I gently shook his arm and he batted his eyelashes at me sleepily.

"Morning, darling." He lazily stretched his arms, tapping me on the chin. "Oops sorry." He giggled.

"Afternoon, now, actually. You've been asleep for a few hours and I just woke up about 10 minutes ago. It's starting to rain, though, so I had to wake you up." I said, entwining our hands.

"Aw, ok. It seemed so nice out." He said sadly.

"I know, but we can't do anything about it now. Let's just go inside before it starts to pour." I said calmly.

"Alright. We can watch whatever those things disc things called that you have in small plastic boxes." He got up off of my stomach slowly.

"They're called DVDs and you watch movies on them. I don't even use them anymore. I showed you one of them, but I use Netflix now." I answered.
