Character names! Always the fun part.

You may be tempted to choose a name off the character's personality. Like "Loudcry" because the cat is always yelling. Or "Prickleheart" because the cat is prickly and snaps at you a lot. But think, the mother doesn't know the cat's personality when she names them. Unless you clearly specify in your story that the mother waited until they opened their eyes to name them. This is uncommon in the Warriors series, but Leafpool did wait awhile to name Jaykit. In this case, also don't name the cat based of their eye color unless the mother waited. You can choose the name randomly, or based off the pelt color. Like Foxkit, a fluffy-tailed russet colored she-cat. Or Silverkit, a white tom with a silver-gray stripe on his back.

Here are some prefixes you CAN NOT use:

•Seasons. It's Leaf-fall in the Warriors series, not Autumn. Same with Winter and Summer. Spring can be used, because it can mean another way to say jumped or the natural water source.

•Lunar/Luna, or Sol/Solar. Cats don't speak Spanish.

•Jade, Ruby, Emerald, Opal, Diamond, Gem, etc. Cats don't know what they are. I know the Erin's used Emerald green to describe Moth Flight's eyes, but I think that's unrealistic on their part. Because they'd have to know what an emerald was to know that's why type of green they were. However, if you want to name a cat Emeraldpaw, I'm not here to stop you.

•Dragon. Yes, I've seen this. Really, cats don't know what a dragon is, and they don't exist. Same with our friends the extinct Dinosaurs.

•Star. Because StarClan, and the risk of Starstar.

•Heart. I've seen it, and don't understand.

Prefixes you can use and maybe didn't know:

•Shimmer. There was a Shimmerpelt.

•Shine

•Copper

•Crystal, I believe.

•Wolf (I was always confused on how cats knew what a wolf was, until they traveled to the tribe territory and heard wolves howling.)

•Claw. If there was a Clawface, I'm sure Fang is allowed.

•Tangle (Tangleburr)

•Song. Yes, there was a Songbird.

•Quick. There was a Quickpaw.

•Mottle. There was a Mottlepaw.

•Pale. Palebird.

Now, when naming your cat, another tip is to be creative! I onced used the name Bobtail for a bob tailed cat. His mother thought that he looked like a Bobcat. Sweetie5453 once made a Delilahkit. AngelTheWildWolf has made a Firefleck and Runningstream.

On to suffixes! Some uncommon suffixes:

•Shine (Reedshine)

•Tuft (Hollytuft)

•Spirit (Brightspirit)

•Burr (Tangleburr)

•Briar (Sweetbriar)

•Gorse (Sandgorse)

•Bird (Snowbird)

•Fern (Honeyfern)

•Dusk (Appledusk)

Now, suffixes can mean things.

Jump, pounce, spring, step, leap, stride, and runner: Usually a good hunter or swift and quick. (Ex. Harespring, Toadstep, Deerleap, Erin Hunter Cats) (Longjump, Shrewpounce, made up)

Heart: Brave, courageous, caring, especially loyal, and or loving. (Ex, Fireheart)

Fire: Bold, not afraid to speak their opinion, and/or have noticeable spirit an energy. (Ex, Bouncefire)

Another tip when naming your cat is to think about the territory and prey of the Clan. If you notice in Warriors, WindClan has cats like "Heathertail" and "Breezepelt." ThunderClan has cats like "Mapleshade" and "Thrushpelt." This is not always the case, but it's good to have characters with names that fit into the Clan. Some names would fit for any Clan, like "Moonflower" and "Snowfur." You can also make names that wouldn't usually match together. For example, Brackenwing. Or Fernsong.

Overall, the name should make sense, but these are just tips!
