"But sometimes, I just want somebody to hold"
~ Tori Kelly (Dear No One)------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sam hurry up or we'll miss it!" I hear my brother call from in front of me. Ironic since the reason we are even running late is because he took forever to get ready. I start running to catch up to him and quickly slip into the subway car just as the door closes.
"That was a close one" I say whilst laughing at how ridiculous that must have all looked. My brother and I have been travelling across America for the last couple of months and we are finally in my favourite place, New York. Ever since I was a little girl I've dreamt of moving out here and performing, but sometimes dreams are just dreams.
I hear a guitar begin to play and turn around to find the source of the music. I finally spot him towards the middle of the cart sitting down wearing a grey beanie and knitted sweater. As he begins to sing I move closer, intrigued to see what was going on.
From walking home and talking loads
To seeing shows in evening clothes with you
From nervous touch and getting drunk
To staying up and waking up with youBut now we're sleeping at the edge
Holding something we don't need
All this delusion in our heads
Is gonna bring us to our kneesSo come on let it go
Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be meEverything's that's broke
Leave it to the breeze
Why don't you be you
And I'll be meAnd I'll be me
As he finishes singing I am completely hypnotised by his voice. A few people applaud him and place spare change into the guitar case at his feet. Before I can even process what is happening I find myself walking towards him.
"Hey I just wanted to tell you that was amazing! You are seriously talented" I tell him whilst sitting in the spare seat next to him.
"Oh Thanks, that means a lot" he replies whilst looking at his feet.
"What was your name?" I ask. "Drew" he replies.
"Well Drew I know that you are going to be a star one day. Now it seems like you just need to believe it as well" I tell him as his eyes look up to meet mine.
"Yeah I hope so. I have a big audition coming up so I guess I'm just nervous about it" he explains giving me a small smile.
I touch the guitar pick necklace around my neck, remembering my uncle giving it to me for good luck before my first performance. As I look at Drew I know that his confidence is lacking and he needs some good luck himself. I slowly unclasp the necklace and hold it out to him.
"Here take this as good luck for your audition" I say as I offer him the necklace. "Oh no I couldn't it seems special to you" he replies with a smile. "Someone once gave this to me before my first performance to give me good luck. I think that you need it more now" I explain placing it in his palm and closing his hand around it.
"Hey Sam, we're here" I hear my brother yell from across the car. "Well this is my stop, I'll see you on a billboard one day after you smash your audition" I tell him before walking out of the subway towards my brother. As I look behind me I connect eyes with Drew one last time.
I never thought that I would meet him again....

A/N Hey everyone so this is a new fan fiction based on Boy Band and In Real Life. It's set about 6 months after the end of Boy Band and centres on Sam competing in the next season/competition.
Also a pre-warning that I am Australian so forgive me if I get anything wrong in terms of how things work in America or the language I use.
I have pre-written a lot of these chapters so I can still upload frequently when school gets crazy, so even though it may not seem like there are a lot of chapters they are coming and they are long.
The song that Drew was singing is Let It Go by James Bay - I highly recommend listening to the original and to Drew singing it.
Please enjoy the story!
