TWO:

By Thursday I felt better about the new school. Knowing Beth and her circle of friends helped; they were all so nice. And, the fact that I was spending more time with Jason certainly didn't hurt either. Every since our first, yet short, conversation, something about him made me want to know more about him.

Today we start working on labs in chemistry, so we have to meet in the lab room. That sounded fine with me, except I had no idea where the lab room was. So, almost going to be late for chemistry, I was wandering in the hall, trying to find the stupid room. That's when Jason must've seen me.

"Hey," he said.

"Oh, thank you!" I said, not meaning to sound so stupid out loud.

"You're welcome?" he replied.

"Sorry," I laughed, "I thought I was going to miss chemistry. I can't find the lab room."

"Ahh, I see," he said with a smirk. A pretty damn cute smirk actually.

"It's right here," he continued. We walked to the last room on the right.

"Oh," I said, not only sounding dumb, but looking it too. He just smiled in reply.

The teacher explained how the simple lab would work, and that we needed partners to start off with. She paired everyone up already, and said the names she called together would be partners for the rest of the year. I was close to last, when I noticed Jason wasn't called yet either. Soon enough, Ms. Jones called mine and Jason's name together. I saw Jason walking up to the lab table I was sitting at, and sat next to me smiling. We waited for the teacher to explain the instructions, and I started in silence, not knowing what to say to him. A few minutes later, he spoke.

"So, can I ask why you moved here?" he asked me, watching me set the test tube in place.

"My mom and dad got better jobs here. They're both doctors. My sister also said she could take different courses here than our old school, so that she could get into Harvard better. So we moved here," I answered honestly.

"Did you want to move?"

"I didn't really care. They don't listen to me anyway, so why not? I actually like it better here though," I said.

"How come they don't care?" he asked curiously.

Just as I was about to pick up the small bottle of water, I accidentally moved it off the table. Instead of it falling on the floor, most of it went on Jason's shirt and pants

"Oh! I'm so sorry!" I said, getting up to get paper towels for him. When I reached to give it to him, I knocked down the glass test tube. It shattered on the floor.

"Damn it," I said quietly. Now I was getting mad at myself for being so clumsy.

"It's okay, it's just water, right?" Jason said while wiping the side of his pants and t-shirt.

"Jason, why don't you go to the bathroom. Seraphina, go over there before stepping on glass. I'll call the janitor," Ms. Jones said, pointing to the door.

Jason walked out of the room to the bathroom, laughing. He was laughing?

"I'm sorry Ms. Jones," I said to her when she walked over to me.

"It's okay honey, it was an accident. I'm more worried about Jason coming back than the broken test tube," she said. About Jason coming back? Did he always skip or something?

Sure enough, Jason came back a few minutes later while Ms. Jones was calling the janitor. Since he was wearing darker jeans, you could barely tell I spilled something on them, but his shirt still had a water spot on the side.
