FOURTEEN:
"I still can't believe your parents got Elyse a new car," Jason said after I picked him up for school this morning. Yesterday Elyse told my parents she got an A on a midterm she took early, so my mom thought it'd be nice to buy her a brand new car. That meant that I got her 2010 Ford Escape, so I wasn't complaining. It just made me a little angry that they would buy her a car over something stupid, so I called Jason after they left.
"Yeah, but I get her car now, so it all worked out."
"That's true. I'm just surprised you're so calm about this. I mean, it was only a grade on a midterm. It's not like she got early acceptance into Harvard or something."
"No, then they wouldn't bought her a yacht," I joked. Jason grunted at my attempt to lighten the mood, but he was still angry, which I clearly didn't understand. I guess it's just too early for him.
Luckily, we arrived at school two minutes later, so I didn't have to deal with the car situation. That was until Beth and Tonya came running up to me.
"I didn't know you had a car!" Tonya shouted.
"I didn't until yesterday. It was my sister's." I glanced over at Jason, who was talking to Cody and Nathan, so he didn't hear us talking about the car. Why does this whole thing matter so much anyway?
"How come, she got a new one?" Beth asked.
"Yes, now don't say anything about it while we're near Jason. He's acting weird about the whole thing," I said quietly as I walked towards the guys.
"Why?" both girls wondered.
"I don't know," I shrugged.
"Hey Sera," Cody greeted while Nathan nodded towards me.
"Hi guys. I can't really talk, I need to go to my locker before class. I'll see you at lunch." I smiled and waved goodbye to them. Jason caught up with me before I walked off too far. He walked right next to me, taking the textbooks from my arms.
"You don't have to carry my books you know."
His smile grew, "I want to."
I smiled back, "Okay, thanks." We walked straight to my locker and I put my books away. Then I remembered Jason still had to apologize to Bryce today.
"Do you remember what you have to do today?" I asked him.
"No, what?"
"Chemistry class?" I hinted.
He stared back at me for a minute until he finally remembered. "Oh, yeah, that."
"I'll be right next to you to witness it," I said, letting a grin slip across my face.
He rolled his eyes, "What, you think I won't do it?"
"Of course not, I just want to see his reaction," I joked. I kissed his cheek quickly and stepped into my first class. I heard a 'hey!' come from where he was standing, but I was too busy laughing to myself.
My morning classes flew by, and soon I was in fourth period; chemistry class. Mixed emotions ran through my body. I was hoping that Bryce would accept Jason's apology and they would at least become a little more civil with each other. However, when I hope for something, it tends to not happen. So, I wanted to be there to be a mediator, and stop them from fighting if Bryce took the apology the wrong way. I never know what to expect from Bryce. Or Jason for that matter.
I saw Jason was at his desk, but Bryce wasn't in the classroom yet. I walked over to my desk, which was near Jason's. Less than a minute later, Bryce walked into the classroom, but Ms. Jones walked in right behind him and immediately started lecturing us about our horrible test scores.
