SEVENTEEN:
"WAKEY WAKEY LANEY!" two people yelled as they jumped on my bed. What the hell! This is the first day I'm off from break and someone is waking me up?
"What the-Jake! Stephen!"
They both grinned at me, but their presence reminded me that they weren't supposed to be here until Tuesday.
"What are you doing here?"
"We came a day early just to surprise you by waking you up early," Jake said.
I tried to glare at them, but I couldn't help show a small smile. "What time is it anyway?"
They shrugged until Jason checked, "It's 8:32 now."
"Aw guys, what the hell! You know I never wake up before ten on the weekends!"
They slowly backed away, sensing I was very annoyed. "Well technically it's not the weekend, considering it's Monday," Stephen stated. I glared at them, serious now, until I bolted out of my bed and chased them downstairs, causing me to run into someone.
"Ow," I said after falling on my butt. I could hear Jake and Stephen laughing hysterically until it faded as they walked into another room.
"Oh, I'm sorry, are you okay? Here, let me help you up," the unfamiliar guy said to me, offering his hand. I took it and stood up. Who the heck is this guy, and what is he doing in my house?
"Don't be sorry, I was stupid and didn't see you standing there. I was too busy chasing after those two idiots," I smiled.
He smiled in return, "I'm Matt. I live a couple houses down from yours now."
"Cool, where'd you move from?"
"Sacramento."
"Ah, I see, pretty far from here."
He nodded before taking a second to look at my outfit. Yes, I was still in my pajamas because I wasn't expecting visitors to be in my house when I chased after Jake and Stephen. Luckily I was wearing shorts and an old t-shirt. However, the shorts were definitely short, and my shirt was probably a size too small for me because I had it for years. My hair was probably a mess as well.
"Uh, I'll be right back," I said before going back upstairs to get changed.
I changed into comfortable clothes; jeans and a t-shirt that fit better. I couldn't help but notice how nice he seemed in just the first few minutes of meeting him. And yes, he was a little cute with his short brown spiked hair and blue eyes, but I didn't feel attracted to him like I did to Jason. I just felt like he could be a good friend, and being a neighbor might help too.
As soon as I changed, I went back downstairs. Matt was sitting in the living room, talking with Jake and Stephen.
"Well don't you look more awake," Stephen said, trying to annoy me.
"Yeah, thanks to you," I said as I sat down next to Jake on the couch.
"Is that why you were running after them?" Matt asked.
I nodded, "I never wake up before ten, so I got a little annoyed when they jumped on me to wake me up."
"Aw Laney, we were just excited to see you!" Jake grinned as he ruffled my hair.
"So that's your name, Laney?" Matt wondered.
"Oh, I'm so stupid, I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Seraphina, but most people just call me Sera. Except these two, who call me by my middle name."
"Okay, nice to meet you Sera."
"You too, Matt. I guess you know Jake and Stephen by now?"
"Yeah, we were talking earlier."
