Mist swirled around Dewpaw's paws. Darkness was all I could see. I tuned to look the other way and a battle cry rang through the darkness. The mist turned into cats fighting, around me cats fled, blood flew and yowls of pain filled the air.

Whats happening? where am i?

A dark grey tabby tom fell to the ground bleeding from his neck. I ran to him, but the mist swirled around me, angry cat faces were wrapped in the mist as it swirled to me head, choking me. a single terrified, grief stricken yowl rang through the darkness, and my eyes flew open.

Moonlight pooled through the entrance to the apprentice den. I looked over to oakpaw, his light brown pelt glimmered in the dull moon light. My memory went back to the dream. I tried to remember what the cats looked like, but the dream was already blurring from my mind. I let out a irritated sigh, why cant i ever remember my dreams!

I cant even remember growing up. At least i got frostblossom to remind me, shes such a wonderfull mother. Her description of my past came back to my mind and I closed my eyes and imagined the story she told me.

'You were born outside the clan walls, you were a surprise because you came earlier than the medicine cat thought. I was on a walk, and then you came! right under the willow tree a few fox lengths away from the camp. the medicine cat came fast, and it turned out all right.  oh but you surprised us all that day!'

But when i ask why i cant remember, she always says

"because your a forgetful scrunch of fur!"

I used to never believe her, but now that I cant even remember a single dream, i cant believe i ever doubted her. I sat up slowly and stretched my hind legs.

Maybe ill go for a walk

I looked up at the moon, which wouldn't set before I got back. Oakpaw's tail twitch as I stood up, and he murmered something in his sleep.

Not like i'd get sleep even if i wasent going for a walk! No one can sleep with him mumbleing in his sleep all the time.

Stalking out of the den and across the clearing I stopped by the camp entrance and could smell that snowblaze was on watch. I know she wouldn't let an apprentice out at night. I turned to the dirt place tunnel, where it was located behind two large slabs of rocks.

After sliding threw the tunnel, I jumped on the right side rock. Then I jumped from there to the top of the rock , then slid down into the forest. I always used this way when I sneaked out for a walk. I padded around half the camp, then i turned to the right and jumped on to a small oak. I climbed to one of the low branches, in front of me stood a larger oak. From that oak a large branch tangled into the branches above. I jumped up onto the branch, small scratch marks were engraved in it from the many times i came this way. I pulled my self up and raced along the branch, and into the tangled branches of the large oak. I crawled through the branches till I got to the edge, another oak loomed in front of me, and i pounced, landing on a low branch.

Under me was a large wall of tangled thorn bushes. I jumped to a low hanging branch sticking from the tree, it led away from the brambles, and into a clearing, that the thorn bushess were surrounding. Under me was a large rock, I stalked slowly to the end of the branch, and it dipped down under my weight. As i stalked closer to the end of the branch, it diped down more, and more, untill i was abel to jump to the rock below.

An unfamiliar smell hit my nose, but i ignored it and jumped down from the rock. behind me the rock was halfway covered in weeds and vines, and i crawled forward, ducking under the vines, and going into a cave. But instead of the familiar fresh air sent that came from a tunnel at the end of the cave, a sicking smell hit my nose, but i couldn't tell what it was, but i knew it was bad. before i could jump back, A large brown creature stared at me with small eyes filled with hatred. And a low growl came from its mouth.

And i finally recognized the smell,

TALLCLAW!
