Chapter Ten
                              Syn
I sat back in his car and relxed while trying not to make any eye contact. I was tense because I thought his car would be laced with drugs, and I hated being in cars like that. Being in Santana's car drove me crazy because of what he had inside it.

"Calm down. Ain't no drugs in this car if you think that," he confirmed. Even though I calmed down a little bit I was still upset. I looked out of the window to make sure I knew where we were going, when suddenly he crossed the bridge to South Beach. My head snapped to him and he was smiling.
                              "I know you not—"
"Calm down. I ain't kidnapping you or nothing. Just wanted to have an early date. Something small. Nothing all serious," he explained.
I rolled my eyes and sat back in my seat. I wasn't going to say anything or pop off because we were going to die if I had. So I chilled.

"So where we going?" I asked casually.
"So you down with this then?" He was surprised.
I nodded because I didn't have a choice really. "I'm far from home with no ride, so do as you please as long as it doesn't deal with any drugs and or gang violence."
He pulled onto the beach's parking lot and got out, then came over to my side and opened the door for me. He reached his out to me and I took his into mine. We went over to the café on the beach where he dragged me into the building, which was somewhat packed, and we went over to the register.

"Ay man, where my food at bruh?" he asked rudely to the lady who was underneath the table.
"Now I know every customer that comes through the door and the only one with this outrageous attitude is my old friend." She stood up and smiled at Zeno. "Zeno how was jail?" she asked. She was beautiful. Her skin tone seemed like it was kissed by the sun and she had long shiny hair that reached the middle of her back. Her hazel eyes were to die for. She wore a tank top and shorts and a sleeve of tattoos swallowed her arm.
"Syn this is my business partner, Lezzy. Lezzy this is Syn," he introduced us.
                              I politely smiled.
                              "Girlfriend?" she asked.
I burst out laughing. "No," I answered.
She shook her head at Zeno. "You got a feisty one, finally!" she joked.
Zeno groaned. "Man you got some pedal boats in the back?" he asked.
"Of course! What else I got back there? Drugs?" she laughed.
Zeno laughed. "Lezzy wouldn't touch a drug even if they paid her a million dollars."
"Ten years clean off of heroin. Zeno gave me this shop as an accomplishment." She then gave Zeno a hug.
He grabbed my hand when they parted and we went to the back of the café where there were boats sitting on the water.
I stopped on the sand and looked at him. "If you really think I am going to get on that water, I will go sit in the car, Hun," I argued, and he shook his head before picking me up. "What the hell! Boy you better put me down!"
"Come on, it ain't gonna hurt you. You wearing shorts anyway so just take off your sneakers and we could get on safely. Got me?" I raised my brow at him and sighed. I was going to give him a chance only because he wasn't giving me that creepy ass smile and persuading me like crazy like before.
"Put me down so I can take off my shoes please."
                              "You aint gonna run?"
"Why would I run if you're my ride home?" I questioned.
He put me down and I took off my sneakers and held them in my hands.
We went over to a small pedal boat and peddled out in the ocean. He may have looked calm while doing this but I was scared shitless of water, only because I couldn't swim. He looked over at me as we both peddled and burst out laughing.
                              "What boy?"
He covered his mouth and continued laughing. "Nothing. Stop looking so scared. It's water. I guarantee that if you tip over I'll catch you," he promised and I smiled, shaking my head. "I'm serious girl."
"Ok, so tell me how you know this lady. Is it drug related or something?"
"Just because I sell drugs with your brother don't mean everything I do is drug related. That café is drug related. I bought it with dirty money that turned clean after purchasing it. I part own the place but everything is for Lezzy. She wanted that place more than anything so I got it for her. I used to sell to her but after seeing her being abused by her pimp and being raped in front of my face I paid for her to go to rehab. I was sixteen around the time and she went. She was the only lady who actually wrote to me while I was locked up."
"Why she didn't visit you?" I asked and looked out at the water.
"She said that those years were to think about myself and mold myself into a better person." He laughed. "I took that as advice. I mean she sent money and everything but she was right, and she kept her promise about staying clean."
"So you think you're a better person?"
"If you mean jail stopped me from being a drug dealer, hell no. My mother made me but the streets raised me. Since I was fifteen I spent every little moment in LH making a living. I'm surprised I got to fucking graduate high school with the lifestyle I was living." There was a little amount of nice in him but I wasn't going to admit it just yet. "Impressing you yet?"
I scoffed. "Chile boo. No you're not. Stalking me and taking me to South Beach without me knowing keeps me unimpressed."
He sighed. "Man, you so hard to impress. I guess I'll just wait to impress you in three days." We peddled back to the shore and I put my sneakers back on so that we could walk to the car. "You want flowers?" he asked.
I tilted my head back and groaned. "You didn't believe me when I told you that your other flowers were in the trash huh?"
He ignored me and walked over to the flower stand to get a bouquet of mixed flowers to hand them to me. "Hopefully you could keep them in a vase or something," he said.
I walked over to the nearest trash can and dropped the flowers in. One thing he needed to learn was that I hated flowers.
