Chapter Sixteen

Syn

There was a reason why I hated men. Because they lied and never kept their word about a damn thing. Especially about something that I was looking forward to. The reason I even gave him a chance was because he was determined to really get with me, even though my rule on dating drug dealers was strictly enforced, but somehow he got through me. Now that he done played me and left me by myself at the beach I wasn't going to mess with him at all. He could try his best to text or call me but I wasn't going to even pay attention to the asshole.

"So you still haven't given us all the news on that mystery man who came cruising by you like that's your husband," my home girl Chrisette said, all up in my business which was making me mad.

I groaned from annoyance as I put my down. I didn't want to talk about it.

"Can y'all calm down?" Whitney stepped in. "Leave her alone. Obviously she doesn't want to talk about it." At least she understood how I felt.

Chrisette rolled her eyes and walked off as if it was something offensive that Whitney said and I barely cared. Whitney turned to me and smiled. "So what happened?" she excitedly asked me.

I blankly stared at her. "He stood me up basically. Had me at that damn pier for three hours and claimed that he would be there on time. Do you know how stupid I looked out there?" I asked as tears started to flow down my cheeks. She pulled me into a hug. It wasn't that I was sad about the situation, I was more like upset which made me cry.

"He's a nobody, Syn. Don't even let him get to you like that. There are plenty more guys out there who are more interesting than Zeno and you know that. Shoot, you are walking on a campus full of fine ass men." She chimed and I got up, grabbing my purse.

"Just because they fine don't mean that they worth it Whit." Being on campus was annoying. I wanted my bed. "Can you just take me home?" I asked, and once she got up her phone rang.

"Hello? Is he okay? I'll be there in a few minutes okay?" she stammered and I raised my brow at her as she looked at the phone as if she just received news of someone who died.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Avant is in the hospital," she said as she grabbed my hand to pull me through the parking lot. "We have to go see him."

"Aint that Zeno friend?" I asked and she nodded as she unlocked the car doors.

"Well were talking, so potential boyfriend," she answered and I smirked. Even his friend could maintain to keep Whitney interested but I was sitting her being stood up. That was really crazy.

Once we got in the car Whitney sped off to Jackson Memorial hospital and she dropped her car to a valet, and headed to the west wing where they were keeping Avant.

"Why is he in the hospital?" I asked.

She shrugged. "Just got a phone call that he was here. I had to be nice enough to come and see him."

I leaned on the elevator wall and waited for us to get off on the sixth floor. When we got off we traveled to a room that was closed.

"Maybe he's sleeping," she turned around and said, and I grabbed her hand.

"Girl you better calm down and open the damn door." I opened the door and saw him laying in his bed with his eyes wide open, watching his TV screen. "Come on." I pushed her in and we both walked inside.
