Soon enough the Wentworth ball came round. The whole town was buzzing with excitement. As for Rebecca she was filled with trepidation for  it had been so long since she attended a ball.

"Are you ready dear?" Shouted her mother.

" Yes, Mother "

" We do not want to be late, it would be very rude! We are all waiting for you." Cried her mother.

"I'm coming!"

" Have a wonderful time." Grace said to Rebecca.

"Thank you Grace."

With that said Rebecca then went to descend the stairs.

" Rebecca you look absolutely Marvellous!" Stated William from behind her causing her to jump. And there he stood Mr Dickens in his black evening attire towering above her, looking dashingly handsome.

" Please....... " he says as he holds out his arm. Rebecca can feel herself blushing it had been awhile since she had received a compliment.

"Thank you." She takes Williams arm to walk down the stairs, She looks down and sees her Mother standing waiting for them. She looked happier then ever.

" Don't they look delightful together!" Exclaimed her mother clasping her hands together.

Rebecca could see out the corner of her eye Williams face she noticed a smile started to appear. She realised it was the first time she had seen him smile. Unfortunately before to long his smile slowly disappeared as they headed into the carriage.

Before long their carriage door was opened and the sound of music greeted them with laughter beside it. As they walked in Rebecca soaked in the atmosphere the dazzling candles had lit. She had forgotten how much she lived for evenings like this and how it filled her with joy.

The music had just started as they walk around the overcrowded room she watched as people effortlessly danced to the orchestra as if they were one. She could feel a genuine smile form on her face. Why had she been so worried of forgetting the steps for as she looked at the dancers she knew for certain she had never forgotten.

She was brought out of her daze by a voice.

"My Apologies miss, the room is so overcrowded tonight I'm afraid I must of trod on your foot." He apologised. She looked up at him, his voice gave away his identity, It was Arthur. There he was standing tall and handsome in his evening attire. His brown eyes smiling along with his face.  She knew then for certain he had never trod on her foot, he would never hurt her.

"You do not need to apologise Mr Longford, what a pleasure to see you! I did not think I would see anyone I knew for the crowds are so large!" She could sense her own genuine pleasure to see him.

" I know what you mean! Are you here with your family?"

" Indeed I am but I have lost them as you can see." She answers looking around the room. All of a sudden the room is filled with the loud noise of clapping.

" aah I see some dancers have departed and yet the orchestra hasn't finished. In fact they are starting the next dance. We should not let this fine music be wasted, should we? Will you allow me the pleasure of the next dance Rebecca?" He asks offering his hand.

" indeed we should not let this fine music go to waste." She places her hand in his. but before they could depart a voice stops them.

" I'm afraid, this dance has been promised to me, my friend" William Dickens interferes . Rebecca sees William standing before her. What should she do, she never did promise him. But he was the heir to her estate, she could feel her heart beating in such a tense situation.
