Love Song
(Y/n) was an average girl who attended Echo Creek Academy. She had average grades, a few friends, and a teeny tiny crush on Oskar Greason. Well, it wasn't really that tiny. In fact, it was huge. It was the kind of crush that made her face red with embarrassment every time she passed him in the hallways, her stomach ache with butterflies when she heard his voice, and her eyes concentrate on nothing else when she caught sight of him. It wasn't until (y/n) ran face first in to one of the school's light poles while staring at Oskar that her friends decided that something had to be done.It was a cool morning in Echo Creek. (Y/n) was walking to school alone again. Earbuds in, eyes down, hands clenched around the straps of her backpack. She lived on the edge of town, quite a distance from the school or any of her friends. She wasn't expecting to see anyone she knew on the roads, and yet, the familiar red car came to a near stop next to her. Driving alongside her pace was Oskar.
(Y/n) removed one of her earbuds. The music blasted out in to the world. She watched as the window rolled down and her crush stuck his head out of the window. She stopped in her tracks as the car pulled even closer to the sidewalk and parked. She could feel her body seizing up in a panic. She had never really talked to Oskar, not directly anyways. A passing "hey" in the hallway was all the experience she had with speaking to him, and she could barely manage that. She really only knew him through her other friends, who sometimes hung around him.
"Hey (y/n)!" Oskar called from his window. His dark brown bangs covered his eyes, but she could still feel his gaze on her. "Need a ride?"
"Uh, yeah, sure," she replied. "Thanks Oskar." She already felt queasy. She made her way around the car and opened the passenger side door. She slipped in to the seat and tossed her backpack on to the floor by her feet. (Y/n) immediately noticed that his backseat was piled with trash, among other items. "You sure have a lot of keytars, Oskar," she commented, turning to face him.
"Music has no limit," he replied. Just as he said that, something from the backseat sprung on to (y/n)'s shoulder. Glancing down at it, she sat it was a tan ferret with dark brown stripes. "Dang, it's Gene!" Oscar held out a cracker to the tiny animal, which it gladly took. It stared up at (y/n) with the cracker in his mouth for a moment before sliding down in to her lap. He then curled up and began to nibble the cracker.
"So cute!" (y/n) squealed. She ran her fingers along Gene's back. The ferret chirped happily.
Suddenly, Oskar put the car back in to drive and went down the road far too fast to be under the legal speed limit. (Y/n) grew excited. She had never gone this fast before! It was exhilarating. Every turn made her body sling around. She could feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins. Oskar let go of the wheel entirely at some point, replacing it with his foot. He dug around in his back seat, and finally pulled his keytar out with a triumphant "ah-ha!". He continued to use his foot to steer the car as it sped past the world.
"(y/n), I want you to hear my new song!"
She blushed at the thought. Oskar wanted to show her a song? "Totally!"
He began to play an off key tune, but (y/n) didn't care. The music didn't sound bad to her, despite nearly everyone disagreeing. She closed her eyes, and the combined sound of Oskar's music with the feeling of flying down the roads gave her a new, magical sort of emotion that she had no idea existed. It was a song without lyrics, but it was beautiful nonetheless.
When he finished, he tossed the keytar behind him and replaced his hands on the steering wheel.
"That was really good Oskar!" (Y/n) smiled at him.
"Thanks. You know, you're really chill (y/n)."
"What? Really? You think I'm.. chill?"
"Totally. We should hang out this weekend."
"Yeah! That would be awesome!" (Y/n)'s newly formed stupid grin was wiped from her face when Oskar slammed on the brakes.
"We're here!" Oskar opened his door to get out, and a gust of wind blew the hair from his face. There, (y/n) caught sight of the most beautiful pair of eyes she had ever seen in her life. She was left breathless when Oskar closed the door.
She opened her own and began to walk towards the school. Oskar kept pace with her. After a moment, he reached out slung his arm over her shoulders. He then pressed his lips to her cheek in a quick peck of a kiss. (Y/n) gasped slightly, blushing for the thousandth time today. Oskar was smiling so wide, his fangs could easily be seen.
(Y/n)'s friends watched as Oskar walked her to her class. They giggled, whispering about their success. It was, of course, them who had told Oskar about their friend's feelings, gave him the perfect opportunity, and pushed him in the direction she lived.
