Healing Broken Hearts
(My friend in real life begged me to write more for "Healing Broken Hearts", so here it is! I hope she likes it as much as the first part! ❤️
Don't worry, I will work on other characters soon!)It had been three nights since (y/n) had saved the strange lizard man called Toffee. Every night, she would sit at her window and stare out at the dark world. She would be observant at first, but slowly lose herself to her thoughts. She didn't have any clues as to who Toffee really was, or where he could be, or even if she would ever see him again, yet she could not take her mind away from the subject. The moon would slowly pass overhead and she would still be up, watching the shadows beyond her room in hopes of seeing some sign of movement.
Eventually, she would snuggle up under her cozy sheets and lay her head down on the plush pillows. She would close her eyes and try to go to sleep, but the image of those burning yellow eyes would keep her up still. She would wonder if his sudden action before his departure had meant anything at all. Perhaps, somehow, the monster had began to actually trust the Mewman princess.
It wasn't until the next night that any signs of him showed up. In fact, it wasn't just a sign, but the lizard himself.
The sun had just sunk down behind the horizon. The last of it's orange and pink rays could barely be seen. Stars were twinkling and shadows were long and dramatic. The princess, however, was not at her window. Instead, she sat on her bed with a book in her hands in a futile attempt to distract herself. She badly wanted to sit by the window, especially when a consistent rustle came from outside of it, but she told herself it was the wind. It was only when her curiosity became unbearable and the sounds louder and closer that she stood, lay her book face down on the bed, and strode over to the gaping window. As she peered down at the length of vines, expecting to find nothing at all, she was met with a pair of familiar glowing eyes. (Y/n) was so startled, are stumbled backwards and fell to the floor behind her.
"Toffee?" (Y/n) said, nearly too loud for secrecy.
The monster pulled himself from the outside and stared down at her with a smirk. "Good evening, princess. Need help?" He reached out his clawed hand. He pulled her to her feet effortlessly once she took it.
(Y/n) took a moment to take in his appearance. Toffee's black hair was in a low, loose ponytail tied with a dark red ribbon. He wore a fancy vanilla dress shirt under a vest that matched the ribbon in his hair. Black dress shoes could be found below slacks of the same color. The princess couldn't help but blush at his charming attire. He didn't look at all like the injured, suspicious monster she had met before.
"Like what you see, princess?" Before (y/n) could respond, he continued. "Good. I would like to invite you to dinner at my home in the forest. Wear something nice." He began to exit through the window he just came from. "I'll be waiting below." With that, he disappeared below the window.
(Y/n) peered over the edge, watching him work his way down. "Well, what if I don't want to go?" she called down.
His smirk only widened when he looked up at her face. "I know you want to, my dear." The last two words came out in a purr, sending (y/n) a slight shiver up her spine.
When (y/n) at last turned from the window, she let out a worried sigh. This was far from the first time she had snuck out, but never before had there been the added danger of getting caught with a monster. It excited her. Only for a brief moment did she ponder what her parents might do to her, or Toffee, if they were discovered. She spun over to her wardrobe, threw it open, and began to push through her many outfits. Finally, she pulled out her favorite (f/c) dress. She changed as quickly as she could and put on matching shoes. She made sure to grab her wand before beginning her decent.
"Ah, there you are," Toffee said in a soft tone once she landed safely on the ground. He was facing away from her with his hands behind his back, but turned around to face her after a moment. "Are you ready?" (Y/n) nodded. Toffee offered his elbow, which she gladly took, and began to lead her in to the forest.
After a short walk, (y/n) could see the silhouette of a house between the trees. As they drew closer, she could make out more details. The cottage was small and made of wood. Compared to the castle of Mewni that she had grown so used to, this place was very dirty and run down, but she knew it was otherwise considered decent quality. When Toffee opened the door for her, she was able to see the inside. The room they entered had several book shelves, as well as a simple coffee table and couch. Across from the couch was a window that let the moonlight pour in. Across from the front door, was an arcway next to a closed door. Toffee grabbed (y/n)'s hand and led her through the arcway to what appeared to be his dining room. There was a very small table with two wooden chairs placed on either side of it. Two windows in the room allowed light inside. Through another arcway, she could make out a sort of kitchen, though it was dark in that room and hard to determine.
Toffee pulled out a seat for her, and gestured for her to sit down, pushing her closer once she did.
"Now, I know that monsters and mewmans don't enjoy many of the same menus, so I hope this is to your liking." Toffee disappeared into the darker room and came back with a small tray, which he sat in the center of the table. On the tray was, miraculously, two plates of (f/f).
"I haven't had (f/f) since I was a child," sighed (y/n), recalling the days when her mother would have it made for her every day before she turned fourteen and had to study magic.
"I'm glad you like it then," replied Toffee as he placed a plate in front of her and doing the same for himself. He finally took a seat across from her.
(Y/n) began to consume the meal. After a few bites, she spoke up. "So, Toffee, was there a reason you wanted to do this?"
"I just wanted to know the person who saved my life better," he replied a bit too quickly. (y/n) thought she saw his gaze flicker to the wand that set beside her on the table.
"I see," she replied slowly. "I still know nothing about you, besides your name, and now where you live." She quietly moved the wand on to her lap and away from view.
Toffee shrugged. "There... Isn't much to say."
There was a short, tense silence between the two. (y/n) was the one to break it. "How are your injuries?"
"Hardly injuries anymore."
"That's good."
Another silence.
"You know," Toffee began, but paused for a long moment, "you look beautiful in the moonlight."
(Y/n)'s face immediately turned pink. "U-uh, th-thank, thank you, Toffee," she stammered. She didn't know where to look.
"(Y/n)." Toffee said her name so delicately that it made her heart skip a beat, or stop, she couldn't tell. Her face grew more hot as Toffee leaned forward. He placed a hand on her cheek. His thumb traced her jaw line. His eyes stared deeply in to her own. She leaned in to his touch. He lifted her head slightly and moved closer. Very much unlike their first embrace, his lips barely brushed against hers before he connected them. Both of them shut their heavy eyelids. This time, (y/n) allowed herself to enjoy the moment now that it was lasting more than a second.
Normally, Toffee's gaze had a hard and guarded expression, but when the two separated, (y/n) saw a softness in his yellow eyes that she never could have imagined being there.
"Let me escort you home, princess," he offered, his voice hushed as if they would get caught if he was too loud. (Y/n) only responded with a nod.
The pair walked, arms linked, back through the forest and approached the castle. Toffee stopped at the bottom and gazed fondly down at (y/n). Again he placed a hand on her cheek and his lips on hers. "Goodnight, my princess," he muttered against them.
"Goodnight, Toffee," she replied once he had stepped away from her. She began the climb up to her window, glancing down occasionally, only to see Toffee watching her. He was standing stiffly, his hands behind his back, his eyes trained on the wand she held between her teeth.
She stepped through her window with a content sigh, her face stretched wide with a blissful smile. When would she see him next? Before she could wonder more, her thoughts were cut short by a sharp voice in her room.
"(Y/n) Butterfly, where on Mewni have you been?" It belonged to no other than her mother, Queen Moon.
