I clutch my suitcase tightly as I walk out of the tent with my brother. He hasn't looked me in the eye since the "whole argument" about this child... This child... My child... Lafayette and I's child..."Hey Abi... I'm sorry. But why? Why didn't you tell me? I wasn't angry—"
"No you were pissed." I deadpanned, but I chuckle at my remark, so did Alexander.
"But in all seriousness, I was sad that you were making the same mistake mom was, even when we swore we'd never make the same mistake she did." Alexander said. Then the memory came back to me.
-
"Y'know this would be all easier if mom didn't leave her husband."
"Yeah, but Alex we wouldn't be alive if she didn't leave the man."
"True..." Alexander said as he drifted into thought. I fumbled with my fingers when a genius thought came to me. I crawled on my hands and knees over to Alex.
"Hey Alex, you want to make a promise that were not going to do the same thing mom did so we won't put our children through the same thing were going through? What'd ya say?" I say, extending my hand to him. He looked at me and smiled.
"Yeah! Let's do that! I swear to the mighty one above!" He yelled as he took my hand and shook it with great force that my hunger pang frame almost lost balance.
-
Tears slide down my cheeks as I reminisced about the golden years of my life. It may have been hell, but it was the best years of my life. Now the new best years of my life is about to begin with this new chapter.
"Yeah... Alex are you sure it's fine that I stay with Eliza till the war and ends and Lafayette and I... Do whatever we do?" I asked, wiping the tear from my cheek. He grabbed my hand and looked me in the eye... For the first time.
"Bessie? Yes, it's fine. Honestly it's more time to be with your sister-in-law, heh." He smiled sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck. I giggled as I laugh at his joke... No matter if this isn't a joke anymore...
"Yeah... I have to know she'll treat you right otherwise, I will fight her like any other of those red coats." I say as I raise my hand pretended to be ready to slap someone.
"Hey! That's my wife!" He snapped his finger as he pointed at me. I chuckle, since he was trying so hard to keep a straight face, but obviously not succeeding on doing so.
"Alright, but just know don't come crawling back to me when she treats you like a the rough Atlantic Ocean." I said as I sighed. I'm going to miss everyone. Alex, John, Hercules, and especially Lafayette.
"Alex. I'm going to go talk to the others and bud my farewells. Goodbye Alexander. I-I'm going to—" I trembled as my knees went weak and I broke down crying, clenching on Alex's shirt.
"I-I'm sorry..." I croak out as I cry on my dear brother. He stroked my brown hair and I breathe heavily on him with tears streaming down my face.
"Sh... It's okay, don't cry... It's not good for the baby..." He cooed as he pat my back. He got up and wiped my tears.
"That's true... But I'm going to miss you Alexander. You know, we've never been apart? This is our first time apart."
"So this'll be the reality, I have my family and you have yours. Just think of it like this is how it's going to be... For the rest of our life."
