I made it to Sarah's in about 25 minutes. I pressed the buzzer for her apartment. I waited for a moment before I heard her voice over the speaker, "Who is it?"

"Riley. Can you let me up?" I asked.

The door was buzzed open in reply and I walked up to her door. She was waiting with it open. When she saw me, she gave me a hug. "Riley, what are you doing here? I thought you were grounded."

I returned her hug. "I am...well, I was. My mother kicked me out. Apparently I'm hopeless and I will pollute the house with sin."

She raised her eyebrow. "Damn. Come in."

She motioned for me to come inside. I walked in and sat on the couch. "I'm more than okay with you staying here for the rest of the school year. I'm going to have to talk to Xavier though. We've been...disagreeing lately."

I just nodded and she disappeared into the other room. I heard silence for a little then yelling.

"No!" a male voice yelled, presumably Xavier.

"And why not?" I heard Sarah yell.

"She's...she's...."

"What? Gay? So what Xavier? The Bible tells us to love our neighbor. And, if we're going to pull out specific sins, you & all your previous girlfriends are going to Hell too!"

I snickered a little because Xavier was probably beet red at the moment. It was silent for a little before they walked out.

"You can stay for the rest of the year," Xavier said.

"Thank you," I replied.

"I'm sorry for my comments. I know you heard us arguing," he continued. "Sarah is right. God tells us to love everyone. Not everyone except the gays."

"It's okay."

Sarah smiled. "We're gonna go put her things in my room."

Xavier nodded and we walked to Sarah's room. "I got a couch in here so you can sleep there."

"Thanks," I said.

"Mhm. You still got your phone?"

I nodded.

"Good. Do you wanna see Aysha?"

"I highly doubt her mother will let us anywhere near her. She's under the same house arrest I was. Especially since she stormed out the other day. Plus my mother..."

"I'll call her then. You know her, she's smart and sneaky. I'm sure she'll sneak out to see you. However, tonight you should call your father to let him in on what's going on."

"I'll call him now while you call Aysha."

"Sounds good."

Sarah unlocked her phone to call Aysha to arrange our meeting while I went into the bathroom to call my father. I sat down on the closed toilet and dialed his number. Oregon was 3 hours behind us, so it was about 2pm there.

On the third ring, my father picked up. "Hello?" he said.

"Hey, dad," I said.

"Riley? Is everything okay?" he asked, sounding concerned.

"Um...." I answered. I was uncertain how to go about this. "No, not really. Issues with mom."

"Hang on." I heard him telling someone, presumably a co-worker, that he need to step outside. "Okay," he said. "What happened?"

"Um, mom kicked me out."

"She what? Why?"

"Cause I'm...cause she found out I'm gay."
