10 years later

"Do you, Aysha Polands, take Riley Minister, to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do you part?"

Aysha smiled at me. She tightened the grip on my hands. "I do," she said.

My smile got bigger and brighter. Brighter than the sun that was shining overhead. It was a nice summer day outside in the venue where we picked for our wedding. We had a lot of people show up. My father, most of my extended family and friends I talked to back in Oregon, her father and all four of her brothers, her grandparents, some of our friends from college and our band days, Frau Schwarz, and even Leah came. Sarah was there too, as my maid of honor. Aysha had her friend Jen as hers.

"And do you, Riley Minister, take Aysha Polands, to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do you part?"

I looked Aysha in the eye and said, "I do."

We exchanged rings. The justice of the peace looked between us. "By the power vested in me, by the State of New York, I now pronounce you wife and...wife. You may now kiss."

Aysha and I grabbed each other and kissed. Everyone clapped and cheered. I felt Aysha smile throughout our kiss. We broke away from each other, smiles still bright. "I present to you the newly married couple," the justice said.

We walked down the isle together. I was married to the love of my life and I couldn't be happier. Aysha and I were in the process of adopting a baby. It was going to be a boy named James. His mother was a 16 year old high school junior who contacted us after seeing our wedding announcement in the paper. She was here too.

Aysha got a job in a publishing company after graduating NYU. I was a flute player in an orchestra. Sarah was now a pediatrician.

Leah had contacted me during my sophomore year in Julliard. She apologized for everything and we reconnected. She was now engaged to a great guy named Josh.

My mother contacted me a week before the wedding. We talked for maybe 5 minutes before she had to go. She had started crying and apologizing.

Aysha looked towards the back row of seats and smiled at me. I followed her gaze and saw my mother sitting there, in the seat closest to the aisle. She had a rainbow pin on her dress that said "Love has no gender." She had come. Tears of joy filled my eyes.

"I told you everything was going to work out," Aysha said as we reached the end of the aisle.

"Yes, you did," I replied.

We turned to face each other and we kissed again.

"I love you so much," I said.

"I love you too," Aysha replied.

We had come so far through everything. Through all the hate, through all the discrimination, through all the obstacles. We overcame them together. As I gazed at Aysha, I could see her love for me. It was just as strong as my love for her. I couldn't imagine a life with anyone but her.

It's true when they say love conquers all.

The End

It's over T.T I'm going to do a "Fun Facts" thing, so while this is the last chapter, there will be one more update. I'm also thinking of getting this published. Thoughts?
