It seems like just yesterday I was entering this beautiful home that then seemed so desolate and bare and I had imagined myself in it.
I envisioned so many things: creating a large family, coming home to my beautiful mate after a hard day of work, Emilia's playful banter and boisterous laughter echoing throughout the house as we'd create memories. I pictured how amazing the living room -- that, at the time, only had one couch, a dingy little table with a TV,. and bookcases filled with books and dvds hidden under a sheet of dust -- would look during Christmas time, with snow falling and our kids' eyes bright with unfiltered excitement at the sight of hundreds of presents that Emilia and I had spent the wee hours of the morning wrapping to perfection.
The kitchen was spotless; too spotless, as if it was never used. I thought about how busy Thanksgivings would be in the years to come. I imagined uptight, clumsy Emilia bustling through a very dirty kitchen, losing her mind at the amount of things that still hadn't been cooked yet and cursing at a pot containing God knows what because it had burned her. The dinner table, which was now empty and also covered in dust, would then glisten under the light of the chandelier, polished and set with fine china and silverware, some new and some from generations and generations of both our werewolf bloodlines.
The empty hallways and rooms would be filled with pictures of a family; a family and a life that we -- Emilia and I -- would create when the time was right. One filled with the utmost happiness and sheer love. What had once been Emilia's house is now our home, one that is far from empty and cold. It's now an abode filled with breathtaking tranquility, one that, whenever I enter, feels as though some kind of magic, some binding spell, has been cast over me. The problems and frustrations I may have are immediately left at the door.
Over the years that Em and I have lived here together, we've cast our love everywhere we can, and our home showcases that now as well. We've hosted dinners with Kevin and Rose and their kids, Easter hunts for the pack's children, annual Halloween costume parties for high school seniors, Christmas parties, New Years Eve dinner parties, and of course, our own private birthday parties; the list goes on and on. I guess it's only right that we continue to spread the romance and have a wedding here as well. Our wedding.
I always knew I'd marry her. It was never a second thought, but I never got past thinking about marrying her. Never thought about when the marriage would come. The time never seemed right. In the beginning of our relationship, which started four years ago when I set foot in our home, it wasn't love at first sight. Not for her, anyway. Smiling at the memories, it took some time, countless arguments, and leaving for Emilia to actually want to get to know me and allow herself to fall in love with me, and whilst Emilia's conflict with herself was going on, there was the rebellion that had everything to do with Emilia. After the rebellion ended, it should've been a new chapter, but it wasn't. Emilia had to come to terms with her mother's past and meet her father, which even now, three years later, is still a strained relationship.
The second year of Emilia and I's life together was filled with Emilia finding herself. She wasn't just an Alpha of a great pack, but a mate, a daughter, an aunt, and a friend. She struggled a lot with balancing her new positions in life. She wanted to give all her time and energy to the pack, to me, to her father, and to her friends, her nieces and nephews, and, most importantly, herself, but it was impossible for her to do so, and that infuriated her. Thankfully, she's got that all together now and takes enough time for herself, while spending the mornings and some evenings dedicated to the pack and the rest to me, and anyone else lucky enough to be graced with her presence.
