Chapter Two: Unwanted Butterflies
LUKE'S POV:
I gulp heavily as I stare at a large building in front of me. It was my first day at this new high school. The seniors have already been in school for a week, so I'm feeling sort of nervous.
As I open the doors, I step into a hallway. There are all different looking boys and girls chatting along the lockers. I see many girls looking at me and winking like I'm just eye-candy. I hate it when someone doesn't like you for you, just your looks, so I ignore them.
A couple groups of guys passed by me saying stuff like, "Hey man! Sup dude! And Yo bruh!" I start to feel more confident now. As I turn the corner, I see a group of boys huddled around a guy beating the shit out of a girl.
I want to avoid trouble and my reputation for fights back in Australia, so I duck behind a trash can and watch. When the guys leave I approach the girl now lying on the ground. I say to her, "Are you okay?" She doesn't answer me, so I ask her, "Hello?" Her face looks towards me and I see a small tear hanging from her chin. I wanted to so badly wipe it away. She was a very beautiful girl. She had long dork brown hair and the most beautiful hazel eyes. When she spoke I snapped out of my trance. She said to me shakily, "Oh yeah, I'm fine." Then ever so softly she said, "I guess." I almost was unable to hear her.
By the look of this girl she wasn't ok, so I say to her, "You don't look alright, let me help you." I know that it was my first day at this American school and I shouldn't be late to my first class on my first day, but everyone was ignoring this girl, so I decided to help her. I held out my hand to help her up, but she just stared at it. So, I awkwardly put it down and introduced myself, "Hi," I said, "I'm Luke."
she looks a little uncertain about something, but then says to me, "I'm uh, Samantha, but um call me Sam." In my head I repeated, Samantha, Samantha. It was a pretty name.
Sam's POV:
This boy was helping me. No one ever helps me. I watched him as he pulled a tissue out of his backpack. He comes close to my face and I feel his warm minty breath on my nose. Then he tilts my chin up and softly dabs my nose with the tissue. As soon as he touched my skin, I felt butterflies erupt in my stomach.
He lightly takes his lip between his teeth and knits his eyebrows together as he continues to clean the blood off my face. When he finishes, he removes his hand from my chin and I suddenly feel cold, almost as if I enjoyed his touch. Wait, did I like him? Wait of course not! I just met him!
When Luke speaks again, I realize that I was having an argument with myself. I then shift my focus back to him. I catch him mid-sentence when he says, "We should go to class." I nodded my head and watch him get up and then brush dirt off his black skinny jeans. I caught a glimpse at his schedule and saw that he had Mrs.. Faulkner next. I had her to.
Luke starts walking to the right, but her class room is left. I say to him, "Mrs.. Faulkner is in the other direction. I'll walk you there I have her too."
"Thanks." Luke replies and a light blush creeps onto his cheeks. It's cute.
When we arrive at the classroom we are 10 minutes late.
As I walked in with Luke, most of the girls looked pretty jealous and they shouted out things like, "What a stut! And, of all people he went with her, ew!" I pretended like the comments didn't hurt, but they really did.
I noticed Luke shooting me sympathetic looks out of the corner of my eye. I tried not to make eye contact with him.
I took my seat, but not before being tripped and slapped before then, the teacher didn't even notice! She was too busy staring at the wall! I think she was just trying to ignore me too.
