Maka's POV
Black Star and I continued talking like how normal people talk. Then it hit me again. Soul wanted me to practice that... soul wavelength thing that Professor Stein asked.
"Um, hey Black Star?" "What?" I sweatdropped and scratched the back of my head nervously, "I was wondering if you could help me out with my wavelength attack... I guess I got a little too caught up with everything else going on that I forgot to practice it myself."
Black Star laughed for a moment and playfully punched my shoulder, standing up, "Honestly, Maka. I never thought that you would forget. You're, like, the top student in class!" I stood up with him and dusted myself off, "Actually, the top student is Kid right now."
His smile faded for a bit then he shook his head, "Well then, let's practice! I could even teach you Soul Menace if you get real good!" I nodded and hopped down from the wall. Black Star's wavelength was literally sparking with excitement. "Show me what you got so far," he said casually.
"Like I said, I can only make it spark," I said while my wavelength crackled through to my hand. "Well, that's good since that's how the whole attack starts off. You notice how Stein and my hand spark first before we use Soul Menace?" "Yeah...?"
He grinned, "If you can make your soul wavelength just a little stronger, than you can create an attack just by touching your hand onto the opponent's body. Since you only have a spark, that just leaves a little spark on your opponent. You know, like when someone touches you and you feel a little static shock?"
I nodded and looked at my hand. So sparks are important... We continued practicing and we stopped for a quick break, "Hey Black Star. You, uh, you were looking at something when we were at the court a while ago. Who was it?"
He arched a brow and chuckled, "Oh. Your perverted dad found out that you were going on a date with me, so he kinda followed me around for the whole day. He's pretty obvious, though." I nearly fell over. "What?! You mean Papa?! He isn't watching us now, is he?!" "Nah. Relax, Maka."
I used Soul Perception just to make sure and luckily, it was only my soul and Black Star's. I blurt out what was on my mind. "You... have an incredibly large soul..." "Wha?" I opened my eyes and found Black Star staring at me like I had two heads. "Oh, it's nothing! I was just thinking out loud!"
He nodded and cracked his knuckles, "So, do you think you can do it now?" "Yeah!" I said, confidently. "Well... Thanks to you..." I blushed a little and Black Star smiled at me. "I think we'd better get home. It's getting pretty late now."
"Y-Yeah. It is," I said as I looked at the laughing sun. It's face just shouted "rape". "Uh. Want me to walk you home?" Black Star offered. I rubbed my neck and looked down, "Um. If you want to, then it's fine..."
We walked through the streets in silence. "Man, it's like a ghost town. Where is everybody?" Black Star asked. I shrugged and looked around for any signs of humans. I used Soul Perception and saw a bunch of normal human souls.
"I think everyone is inside. I don't know why, though. It's weird..." I said. We were only two blocks away from my apartment when Black Star nearly dodged a Kishin claw. "Black Star! Are you okay?" "Yeah, I'm fine! Let's get out of here. My wavelength is useless right now since I can't even touch that thing, and we don't have our weapons."
I looked at the Kishin and saw what he meant. It's entire body was covered in spikes and it's claws looked absolutely deadly. A swipe from that could be fatal... Black Star grabbed my hand and started running. "A big star like me isn't one to run, but this situation isn't one to be reckless in!"
"Black Star, my house is a complete 'no' right now. If we go there, the Kishin could target Soul instead. And he isn't so good without a meister." Black Star glanced back at me while running, "Then where to?" I shook my head, feeling utterly useless. "I don't know."
He stopped running and faced the Kishin which was walking towards us. "It's head doesn't have any spikes on it. If I could just get close, then I'll drive my wavelength through it." "But Black Star, that could be dangerous! The spikes around it's neck and shoulders could-"
"I gotta do something, Maka. I can't let you die." I froze for a second and nodded. "Please be careful." He gave me a thumbs up and got the Kishin's attention. "Hey, ugly! Come and get it!" He taunted. It turned to him and chased him around. One of the Kishin's disadvantages was it's speed.
"Haha! You could never catch a big star like me!" The Kishin was furious and swiped at Black Star, who jumped up in the air. His hand crackled with sparks and he was about to deliver the blow when all of the Kishin's spikes extended.
A couple hit him and tore through his clothes, also cutting him in various places. "Black Star!" The Kishin snapped it's head to me, but I ran towards Black Star. "You idiot! Get outta here! I'll handle him myself!" I shook my head, "No. I'm not leaving without you!"
The Kishin raised it's claw to slash at us, but then pink lights hit it's huge body and it disappeared, leaving a red soul floating in it's place. "Are you two alright?" I lifted my head and relief filled my body head to toe.
"Kid...!" He kneeled down next to Black Star as Liz and Patty collected the soul. "Most of these cuts aren't major. But one is too deep. We'll bring you to Professor Stein." Black Star was about to reply, when he passed out. I sighed. "Thanks for saving us, Kid... I owe you one."
He smiled at me and got Liz and Patty to carry Black Star. "We're not keeping score, Maka. Besides, you're my friend. I'd never let anything happen to you." I nodded with a smile and he walked ahead. What the-?! No, Maka! No blushing! You like Black Star, not Kid!
"Maka. You coming or what?" I looked ahead and saw Kid looking back at me. "Uh. Y-Yeah!" I ran up beside him and played with my fingers.
This is not good.
Not. Good. At. All.
