Soul Connection?

I got snapped back into reality and found that Soul was holding me. I held my head and looked around. Still in the dungeon... "What happened?" Soul shrugged and stood, putting his hands on his hips. "Well, when you closed your eyes, you kinda passed out. After that, I dunno what you did..." I blinked and wobbled up, my legs feeling numb. "Is Black Star okay?" He arched a brow and tilt his head, "Why? Did you do something?"

I nodded and looked back into the cell. Black Star's head was slumped down and his fists were limp. Taking a step forward, he twitched. All of a sudden, his head just shot up. "Woah!" My heart did a backflip. He's okay... Making sure that he no longer had madness in him, we unchained him, right in time for that shadowy figure to show up.

The large grin was still on it's face as it offered a hand out. "Maka...?" Kid asked, nervous. I smiled at them sadly and they got the message. "Maka-chan," Tsubaki whispered. "What exactly did you do?" I looked down, still smiling sadly and sighed a bit. "In order for Black Star's soul back... I've traded him with my own soul..."

At my response, Tsubaki clamped her hands on her mouth, the boys gasped and stared and the Thompson sisters held each other. Black Star waved his hands around, "Wait, wait, wait! Are you insane, Maka?! Why would you-?!" "Don't you remember? I said I love you..." He shook his head furiously, "C-C'mon, Maka! Hey, you! Shadowy guy! Cancel off that trade!"

It's grin only grew wider. "No," it said simply. "Your soul is nothing compared to that of a Grigori! No take backs!" A faint blush appeared on my cheeks as I turned to face the shadow. "It's okay, Black Star. I did everything I could to save you... Wouldn't you.... do the same for me?" I heard him gasp a bit and he sighed. "I promise, Maka..." I smiled with my back still turned. "Good,"

"But there ain't no way I'm letting this freak take you without a fight!" Black Star yelled. My eyes widened and I heard weapons transforming. Tsubaki, Liz and Patty... The shadowy figure let out an unhumanly growl and translucent gray hands grabbed at my soul. My body froze and I couldn't move a muscle. "Stop it!" Soul cried.

Kid pointed Liz and Patty at the shadow and shot at it. Since his shots were made from his wavelength, he was able to deal a lot of damage. My soul appeared outside my chest and my body went limp. How am I still alive with my soul outside my body...? Kid continued firing and Black Star triggered Enchanted Sword Mode.

As the figure just continued pulling my soul away, Black Star cursed. "Dammit... Dammit... Dammit!" "Execution mode complete... Death Cannon.." The smoke blocked everyone's sight. But mine went dark. So dark...

Black Star's POV

I coughed and opened an eye through the smoke. It fade away soon and the shadow was gone. A body thumped on to the floor and my eyes darted around for Maka. In the dark dungeons was a faint blue light. Kid skid down on his knees and placed two fingers on Maka's neck. "She's out..."

He gave her to me and I held her carefully in my arms as Kid observed the small soul floating in the middle of the room. It was blue like any other and had a tail pointed up. But what made it special was the two little wing-shaped things on the side. "She does have a Grigori Soul after all..." Kid stated. He took the soul and turned to us, "We have to bring her back to my father. Hopefully, he can figure something out..."

We returned to the Death Room and reported everything that happened to Lord Death. "Hm... Well, I can say that you kids were brave. But you weren't exactly able to squeeze through this one easily," he said while gesturing to Maka. "Can you do something...?" I asked. Lord Death popped his giant hands out and gestured as if he was shrugging.

"Well, you still have her soul and body in tact! Can't you do something?!" The others flinched at the tone of my voice and I sighed. "Sorry..." Lord Death pat my head - for once not ending up in a chop - and I could hear a smile in his voice, even though I couldn't see under his mask. "I'll see what I can do. Just try to sit still for now."

"Okay..."

Maka's POV

I cringed in pain and tried to sit up, feeling rather dizzy. But someone's hands found their place on my shoulders, pushing me back down. I couldn't hear well, so couldn't make out what the person was saying. All I could tell is the person talking was a boy judging by the deep voice. Then a female voice piped in as well.

I strained to open my eyes and was only able to crack one open. Professor Stein.... and Naigus? Am I in the Dispensary right now? Judging by the people with me.. I am. I groaned and opened my other eye. "Professor..." I was able to croak out. He turned to me and adjusted his glasses. "Ah, you're awake... Naigus, call her friends in," he said in his normal monotone voice.

Naigus nodded and left, closing the door quietly behind her. Stein reminded me of my little 'dungeon battle' and shrugged casually. "So, that's all. In other words... Well, you died." That last part hit me. "Uh.. What? I hope you're joking, Professor..." He shook his head. "Nope. You died." I looked at a screen that monitored my heart beat. It seemed normal.

"If that's true... Then why am I alive?" The door opened and Professor Stein gestured to everyone. "They can explain." I scanned my friends and stopped at the person who kinda caused this mess. He was looking away before Tsubaki jabbed him in the ribs. He cringed and glared at Tsubaki before looking at me. "Hey, Maka.."

My lips cracked into a smile and Black Star blinked, his eyes half-lidded before smiling back nervously. He stood by me alongside everyone else and took my hand in both of his. "How are you feeling...?" "A little dizzy.. But aside from that, I'm fine. So, can you guys please explain? What happened? I don't get it," I said, feeling dumbfounded.

Kid piped up and I felt something different with his soul. "Maka, try using your Soul Perception on me before we explain.." He said, rather quietly. I nodded and focused. Everyone's souls appeared and they seemed fine. But there was something wrong with Kid's. It wasn't.. whole.

"Kid...?" He scratched his head nervously and took a deep breath. "Okay, Maka. Listen.. You know that shadowy figure from before?" I nodded. "Well, obviously. The damn thing was stealing my soul away.." He nodded. "Yeah. And it succeeded. But it wasn't able to take your soul along. I asked my dad if he could do something to bring you back. Stein wasn't lying when he said that you died."

I perked at this fact. So I really did.. "Then why am I still alive?" "Your soul was already outside of your body. It wasn't complete. Your Grigori Soul was missing a wing. But I, however, am a shinigami as you know. A fraction of my soul could support your's. An incomplete Grigori wouldn't have been able to bring the latter back."

My eyes widened as I gathered this information. "You.. gave a piece of your soul to me..?" He looked off in the distance and cocked a brow. "Yes at the same time, no.. Your soul and mine are... connected, if I will. If I die, then-" "I'll die with you?" I completed his sentence and he nodded. "Even so... it's really kind of you to do that.. Thank you, Kid."

He smiled and shook his head. "I didn't do it for me." I turned to Black Star and smiled, closing my eyes. "I see..." Professor Stein took care of me until I was better (which took weeks) and we finally returned to our normal lives. Until one day, I remembered something important. We were all eating lunch at our normal place in the cafeteria. So I decided to break the ice.

"Guys?" All eyes turned to me. Tsubaki smiled sweetly and tilt her head. "What is it, Maka-chan?" I fidget and played around with my fingers. "How could I have forgotten..." I raised my head. "Where... No... What happened to Novo-chan?"

They all flinched, much to my suspiscion and I started worrying as well. "Guys? Is there something you're not telling me...?"
