❝ LOOMING SHADOW. ❞CHAPTER THREE.
A collection of sharp gasps sounded from the five as they stared upwards. They strained their necks to look at the mere height of the object, and strained their eyes trying to see through the pitch darkness to it.
They only noticed now that the bright moon that had always guided them in their late night ventures was blocked off, suffocating in the looming shadow of white and blue castle. The five friends stood up shakily, Finn scooping the gang's Corgi into their arms.
"Should we... walk towards it?" Rowan questioned, none of them taking their eyes off of the building. The large structure sat in the field of wheat about half a mile away, low whistles of wind zipping around it as it beckoned them forward.
No one answered the eldest of the group, but instead they grabbed one another's hands and started making their way into the tall stalks of grass. The closer they got the more Tweetie squirmed in Finn's arms, his nervousness penetrating the minds of the others and making them antsy.
It took about five minutes for them to reach the thing they had become so frightened of, each step closer making their ears ring.
Soon enough, they were stopped right in front of the castle, looking up at it in an emotion they could not register. Rowan could feel the familiar anxiety crawling up his back, his hand shaking in Lia's.
"What, are you guys scared?" Lia scoffed as she tried to smile, but it only wavered and fell. Miles almost compared the building to a haunted house, but a haunted house didn't have faint blue lights glowing from the inside, and a haunted house wasn't a pristine white.
"We have to go in," Chayse breathed, looking to the others with bright eyes. Usually she would be the first to say no, but if the others were with her then she was sure she would be fine. Four heads snapped to her, some glaring and some nodding in agreement.
"What, are you crazy?" Rowan whisper shouted, his voice trembling.
"Yeah, I don't know, guys," Finn agreed. "We're already trespassing by being on this farmland or whatever, I don't want to go into someone's house."
"You think this is a house?" Lia screeched, her hand leaving Chayse's in order to point to the sky. "This thing goes up forever!"
"I am not going in there," Rowan crossed his arms, huffing in exasperation. The five went silent, looking back to the structure. Chills ran through their spines as they suddenly felt eyes on them, and they shifted in their spots uncomfortably.
Tweetie suddenly barked, his shrill cry filling the night air. Finn tried to shush him, their finger lifting up to their lips as if they were quieting a kindergartener. Their actions were to no avail, instead only egging the little dog on. Tweetie let out a final sharp bark towards the large door of the castle, before leaping out of Finn's arms and scrambling towards the building.
All five of them cried out in protest simultaneously, their past argument dissipating as they ran after their pet. Tweetie disappeared before they could even reach the door, his barks the only thing signifying them of his whereabouts.
"What the hell, Tweetie?" Rowan scolded to the dog she couldn't even see. Soon his barks faded off, leaving the group of friends clueless and lost. The stomping of their feet against the metal floors stopped, and they paused to catch their breath.
The hall they found themselves in wasn't dark at all. Lights were lit up, its brightness almost blinding them. There was no decor on the walls and the whole place just felt desolate. They looked to one another in despair, not knowing what to do.
"We shouldn't be here," Finn said, giving Chayse a quick glare.
"We can't leave Tweetie," Rowan decided, despite the pressing fear he felt. The others agreed with the statement, and they gathered up the courage to continue deeper into the mysterious place.
They rounded a multiple of twisting corners, their feet growing tired as they faced multiple dead ends and in the search of their beloved dog. Just when they thought that maybe it was better if they call the police or whoever owned the land to get help, they stumbled into a large room.
A humongous window could be seen at the front, looking out onto the field below it, and multiple control panels lay at ease. It all looked foreign to them, no technology present that was recognizable.
In fact, they didn't even recognize the language on one of the panels. It wasn't English, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, or anything they had seen before. Everything seemed to have a theme of white and sky blue, and they quickly accepted the two colors.
There was only one word made up of English letters that the five managed to say; Voltron. And that's when the stranger's voice called out, making them all scream in fright.
