SOME DAYS LATER
Alison

I had just returned from walking outside, I needed some air and it was sometime at midnight.

I was starving.

I made my way to the kitchen to find something to chew on. I didn't want to alert Henna so I didn't bother turning on the lights.

I opened the fridge quietly and grabbed some of the pastries from last night and snacked it with some milk.

I sat on a stool and was enjoying my midnight snack when I noticed a faint light coming from down the hallway, that was on the opposite side of the house, A.K.A. Mr. Hertz's chamber.

I wasn't allowed to cross the line, but my curiosity got the better of me, and I went to check it out.

And somehow, I found myself walking into his study.

I walked through the gigantic bookshelves and spurred to where he was, he was seated beside the window, legs crossed, sipping on a cup, whilst reading a book.

His hair was tousled and he had a blue robe on.

My face turned beet red, maybe I should leave--

I had turned when he spoke.

"Do you need anything?"

That was a good question, why was I here? He looked surprised to see me, which was reasonable since I made it clear I wasn't going to talk to him again.

"I'm sorry-" I turned to leave.

"Ali." He stopped me, he looked utterly exhausted, but managed to put on a strong front for me, "Can we talk for a second?"

I nodded and made my way to him,

There was a space beside him, I reached and settled down on it. I was so close to him that
couldn't help but gape at how handsome he was, even at his age, he was absolutely breathtaking.

He also smelled of freshly laundered linen and some expensive body-wash. Oh my, it was intoxicating. I inhaled deeply.

"I heard the results came in today." He spoke again,

"Yeah, I won third place. It could have been better, I got distracted." Thinking of the man in front of me.

"Congratulations," He said anyway.

"Thanks." I smiled and then there was this awkward silence again. The last time we talked I completely embarrassed myself.

"What are you reading?" I chimed in to ease up the tension.

I didn't want to leave.

"The dynamics of politics." He answered.

I cringed.

"Sounds fun, Lend it to me later, would you?" He raised an eyebrow at me, "What?! You think I can't read?"

"With your grades, I doubt you've ever picked a book." He taunted.

I snickered,

"I got bad grades on purpose."

"You don't say."

"Yeah, I was going to surprise you this semester and get straight A's, but you just ruined the surprise."

He shook his head and returned his gaze to his book. I just sat there staring at him as he read, "Did you always know you were going to be successful?"
