"Sometimes, Gordon visited me at the orphanage. He told me that Henry made the call to rescue my mother and I from Daniel. I always thought he was going to adopt me as soon as he recovered but he went missing, no one knows anything of him. Not even a tiny clue." Bruce stared wide eyed at Eva as she told him everything that happened.
He never expected Eva to have such a sorrowful, painful and full of grief childhood.
"But I forgot Henry easily...after awhile though, I couldn't eat and I couldn't sleep because my nightmares were eating me inside out," Eva chuckled in disbelief, "although one day, a visit to one of the therapist in the orphanage made me forget how those nightmares felt like. It was rather peculiar really, the moment I stepped out his office, I didn't remember a thing. I don't even remember what we even talked about." As Bruce and Eva laid in bed together, he wrapped his arm around her waist as he listened carefully to the woman.
Indeed it was peculiar and it did bug him too, not only Eva.
"Even though I had my nightmares, it didn't impact my day to day life anymore. But I always seeked comfort though, every night I sneaked out the orphanage and found my way to Gotham Zoo and visited Sheva." Eva said with a small smile of embarrassment.
"But then, I was kicked out the orphanage because I was too adventurous and I was in too deep with criminal activities." Bruce gave her a look that demanded what she meant by criminal activities. "By criminal activities, it was more like fights between teens, sneeking out, pick pocketing, stuff like that."
"What happened to you after you were kicked out?" Bruce balanced his head on his palm while his elbow sinked into the pillow.
"Veronica found me, we both tried working jobs that didn't end up with our lives in the line, I tried my best to stay in college as best as I could but I couldn't afford it. From there, Veronica and I met other people. It took us years working in the shadows, thieving when it was necessary to at least put some food on the table. But Veronica and the rest said I was bright and I held many skills- then on I started doing more risky stuff, I was more noticed. Even though I didn't want people to notice my presence in Gotham's play of hero vs. villain. I never really wanted to be a part of it, especially as a villain." Bruce's finger found its way into Eva's hair, as he massaged her scalp and combed her hair with his fingers, Eva continued.
"When people started to notice, they requested Veronica to contact me in doing their dirty work that they were too scared of doing, that's where Tigress came from. I mainly accepted scaring people into doing something, robbing from them if they were rich you know, stuff like that. But never, have I ever murdered someone. That was my only rule, and I don't intend on changing it." Bruce's chest felt much more lighter at her words.
That was one of the things they had in common.
"Then I met you. Now, here I am." Eva turned her head slightly to look up at Bruce as he towered over her, a small genuine smile lightened his feature as Eva took a moment to appreciate his hair falling down his face, covering parts of his forehead, how his jawline slightly was revealing while his eyes twinkled and glittered as it locked with hers.
"And I'm glad that I'm here, Bruce, I really am." Bruce's arm left Eva's waist as his hand traveled to her forehead to push back her hair, his eyes roamed every detail of her face and picked up small details he didn't focus on before like how her right cheek had a faint scratch on it and under her chin there was a small beauty mark, to see it, you had to look closely.
Bruce's hand cupped Eva's cheek as his thumb lightly rubbed the faint scar, "and I'm glad you're here. With me."
Eva and Bruce's legs were tangled together when Bruce pulled Eva on top of him. A slight squeal escaped Eva's lips at the action she did not expect.
