SotC: Don't Wanna Cry, SEVENTEEN

- - -

EVER SINCE JIN REALIZED THAT HE MIGHT NEVER SEE THE MAN AGAIN, HE WAS DISTRAUGHT.

He felt like that man was the one that got away.

Jin was heartbroken.

And it was starting to affect him.

His family had noticed that his grades were slipping a bit, but when they visited him to make sure everything was okay, they sensed that something was wrong with him. Simply wanting to comfort their youngest son, his parents took him out to an early lunch at Jin’s favorite restaurant.

Jin greatly appreciated the distraction, and, having missed his family dearly, thoroughly enjoyed being with them. As they finished up their meal, though, his father got a text on his work phone.

“Oh,” his father sighed. “I’m sorry, Seokjinnie, I’m afraid our time together has been cut short;  I’d forgotten I have a meeting, and I’d cancel it if I could, but…” His voice trailed off, but Jin picked up on what he was trying to say.

“I understand.” Jin nodded. “You guys should go take care of the business. Thank you- so much- for this.”

“Of course.” Jin's mother hugged him. “Take care of yourself. And call your mother more often.”

Jin laughed, hugging his dad. “I will.”

As his family turned and walked out the restaurant, all of Jin’s heartbreak came rushing back at him. Frustrated, Jin rested his head down on the table, letting out a muffled groan.

Little did Jin know, at that moment, his older brother looked back in the window of the restaurant and saw. Releasing his mother's hand, he turned to his father. “I'm going to skip this meeting today, and probably stay at one of the apartments tonight, can you have my secretary sit in for me and send me her notes, along with any reports discussed?”

“Of course! You always submit your reports on time, anyway, so you can sit this one out, but why?” His father asked, concern laced in his voice. Seokjung replied over his shoulder, already moving back to the restaurant.

“Jin needs me.”

Opening the door, Seokjung headed back to their table, then tapped his brother on the shoulder. Jin looked up, face slightly tearstained. “What are you doing here, hyung?”

“Come on, Jin-Jin,” Seokjung held out one hand, and Jin nearly cried from the nickname alone because oh my God the last time he was called that was when he was a child. “Let's get something to drink, and you can tell me what's bothering you, yeah?”

Jin looked up at his brother uncertainly as Seokjung waited patiently for his little brother with his outstretched hand. Eventually, Jin put his hand in his older brother’s, pulling himself up.

“Okay...just don't tell our parents. I don't want them to worry.”

“He was just so perfect, hyung, and I might have lost him for good.”

Jin exhaled as he finished the wine in his glass. His brother reached over the coffee table for the bottle. “Need more?”

“Sure.” Seokjung refilled Jin’s glass, then topped off his own. Taking another sip, Jin sighed. “This is amazing. Where did you get it?”

“I don't know,” Seokjung laughed. “I just grabbed a random one from Mother and Father's wine cellar.”

Jin laughed with his brother. “It's like we're teenagers again, sneaking alcohol from our parents and trying to hide our hangovers when we drank too much.”

“Oh, our parents knew.”

“Definitely. They know everything.”

“Do they...” Jin started cautiously. “Do they know something's up with me?”

Seokjung swallowed a mouthful of wine. “They know you're upset about something. But they don't want to pry unless it's serious.”

“I don't want to tell them, because of this, and I'm not out to them, but-” Jin stammered. “Jung, what would they tell me to do?”

“Well…” his older brother paused. “Mother would tell you to do what you feel is right. Father would tell you to think about the situation and be rational.”

Jin soaked up his words as his brother gathered their glasses and the empty wine bottle, putting them away in the kitchen. “You don't have classes tomorrow, right? Stay here tonight. I don't want you going out with half a bottle of wine in your system.”

Jin nodded. “It doesn't even feel like we drank an entire bottle.”

Oh, but you won't be saying that tomorrow.”

Jin grinned as he walked down the hallway of the large apartment with his brother, stopping in front of one of the bedrooms. As his brother kept walking down to his own bedroom, Jin called out to him in a small voice. “Jungie?”

Surprised at how vulnerable his younger brother sounded, Seokjung stopped at the old childhood nickname. “Yeah, Jin-jin?”

“What would-” Jin swallowed. “What should I do?”

“Honestly?” Seokjung voiced. "You're a businessman, Jin-jin, you know what you have to do in situations like this. You have to be determined and work for your goal."

"But this isn't a corporate deal, this is my heart!"

"Ah, Jin, but your heart pumps the blood of a CEO, no? In some situations, they're more similar than you think."

Seokjung turned to his younger brother, seriousness on his face.

“Go get your man.”
