SotC: Be Happy, B.A.P

“PUT. BACK. MY. LETTERS. NOW.” JIN SPOKE THROUGH CLENCHED TEETH.

Eyes widening at the sudden change in Jin’s personality, everyone hurriedly passed around the shoebox, quickly yet neatly stacking the letters back in the box. The last person with the box, which happened to be the person Jin didn’t know, slapped the lid on the box and made a move to slide it under Jin’s bed. “No,” Jin said sternly as he held out his hand, causing the boy’s eyes to widen in fear as he shakily slid the box to Jin’s feet. Jin’s expression softened as he picked up the box. “I’m sorry. I’m not usually like this- just- these mean a lot to me.” Sliding his most recent letter out of his bag, he added it to his collection, then placed the box on a high shelf. He slid into the circle next to his brother, who promptly poured him some wine. “Thanks, hyung.” With a sip, he turned back to the boy he didn’t know. “I’m Jin, what’s your name?”

“Taehyung!” The boy exclaimed with a wave and smile, and Jin had to fight the urge to laugh because this boy was just so cute.

He’s probably Jimin’s friend, Jin thought, and he was proven correct as Taehyung explained that he was Jimin’s roommate and friend that he travelled with during the summer. “How was your trip?”

Taehyung and Jimin’s eyes lit up at mention of their trip, and both began talking quickly; Taehyung in the standard dialect, Jimin in the Busan satoori that he was brought up on and slipped back into. Yoongi groaned, “He’s doing this to annoy me, I swear.”

As Jimin cheekily grinned at his boyfriend, Yoongi’s scowl darkened. “I hate it when he does this,” he muttered before calling to Taehyung. “Yah, Tae, you’re from Daegu, right?”

At Taehyung’s confirmation that he was, indeed, from Daegu, Yoongi spoke. “Then could you please tell my boyfriend…” As Yoongi continued speaking in his native Daegu satoori, Taehyung’s face paled. None of the others knew what Yoongi was saying to Taehyung, but they figured that none of it was very good, judging by the way Taehyung looked at Jimin with an expression that said nothing other than God help this poor child.

When Yoongi finished speaking, Taehyung tugged on Jimin’s sleeve and whispered in his ear. After a  few moments of Jimin’s eyes widening and violent head shaking, Jimin broke away from Taehyung to go to his boyfriend. “I’m sorry, hyung,” Jimin pouted, this time in standard Korean.

“Will you do it again?” Yoongi asked lowly, to which Jimin shook his head. “Good.”

“I love you,” Jimin mumbled as Yoongi held his boyfriend to his chest, to which Yoongi responded with a “Love you too, babes,” as he pressed a kiss to Jimin’s head.

Watching them, Jin couldn’t help but feel a pang in his heart. How I wish I could experience that with N; the cuddling, the kisses, the sound of sweet nothings whispered in my ear accompanied by our hearts, unified under one beat…

“Bro, you’re staring,” Seokjung whispered to Jin, who shook himself out of his fantasy.

“Aww, did Jinnie have someone on his mind?” Hoseok gently teased, to which the others laughed. Yoongi rolled his eyes as he further poked at Jin. “Look, I know you could hardly control yourself all these years of us living together, but I'm taken.”

Jimin swatted his boyfriend as he pouted. “How come nobody told me about this sooner?”

“Babes, you were travelling,” Yoongi replied, and Jin spoke. “It’s okay. I’ll tell you about him now.”

As Jin launched into his story of N once again, he couldn’t help but get stars in his eyes. His humor, his intelligence, his personality, his looks; every time Jin talked about N, he always reached the same conclusion.

N was simply perfect.

When Jin finished, Jimin sighed happily. “Hyung, that was so beautiful! It’s almost like one of those romance stories that teenage girls write about in fanfictions.”

Taehyung nodded, a somewhat dreamy look in his eyes. Jin sighed. “Yeah, I l-like him a lot.”

“So why don’t you take the next step? Go on a date with him?” Seokjung asked, and the circle nodded in agreement.

“I wish it were that simple,” Jin sighed. “I have classes in the morning and early afternoon, and his classes are in the late afternoon and at night. When I’m free, he’s busy, and when he’s free, I’m busy.”

“Ah.” The group fell silent in thought. Then Hoseok suggested, “Well, summer classes end in a few days, and then there’s a two-week break before fall semester. Why don’t you guys go on a date in the beginning of our break, so that it won’t interfere with any plans you two might have? I know you were probably going to go back home; maybe he was going to do the same.” The circle nodded in agreement, deeming Hoseok’s idea a good one.

“You know what?” Jin decided, the determination in his voice surprising himself. “I think I’m going to do that.”

At Jin’s words, the circle applauded, the claps thundering throughout the small room. Shouts of, “Yeah, Jin!” and, “That’s my hyung!” resonated throughout the crowd as Jin received several slaps on the back and fist bumps of encouragement. Eventually, the shouts died down, and the conversation within the group shifted to other topics.

I hate to admit it, but this is pretty fun. Even if I had no idea what the hell was happening at first, Jin thought as laughter broke throughout the small group. Noticing someone was holding out their empty cup for more wine, Jin filled their cup before topping off his own. As he took a sip, he looked around gratefully at his friends, from the old, to the new, to the brother.

Jin allowed a small smile to ghost his lips as he thought:

I’m so lucky to have these people in my life.
