SotC: Oh Boy, AOA
JIN SAVED EVERY LETTER HE GOT IN A SHOEBOX UNDER HIS BED.
As the weeks flew by, Jin and N fell in the habit of writing to each other daily; during the day, Jin would go to The Complete Guide to Raising Whales and retrieve the letter that N had written him the night before. After giving it a kiss and tucking it away in his bag, Jin would eagerly write out a reply, answering N’s questions and asking his own. At night, N would head to the book to gather the letter he had been looking forward to all day. After reading it with a smile, he would put it away, then write out a reply, which Jin would get in the morning. And the cycle repeated.
Needless to say, after a few weeks, this was a lot of letters that amassed a lot of paper.
But to Jin, it was more than just sheets of paper. It was hours of smiles, and laughter, and whispered secrets under a blanket. It was hours of learning something new about each other, of countless flirting, of the millions of dates that they had without having, and of being completely smitten with each other’s words.
The letters were a testament to their increasingly passionate relationship.
And Jin was falling harder every day.
As they wrote to each other, Jin’s worries about him not getting to sufficiently know N faded away. Other than his name (their game had long since stopped), Jin knew N quite well; from the little things, like his favorite color and food, to the bigger things, like how he truly cared for his younger brother (whose name, Jin learned, was Jungkook.) He learned about how though he ate spicy foods all the time when he was with his family, he actually didn’t like it, and was told many funny stories from N’s time as an R.A. He learned that N had wanted to pursue a variety of careers in his youth, including music, before settling on pharmaceuticals because he liked science and the job would be able to support him well.
The one thing Jin never knew about N, though, was why he hated lightning storms so much. When Jin asked, N’s reply was short and to the point:
Remember when I told you there were some things I couldn’t talk about with you? This is one of them. I’m sorry, I’m just not ready to talk about it; please don’t ask again.
And Jin didn’t. There was so much more to learn about this man. Why get hung up about this one thing?
Their letters, stolen bits of a relationship forced under wraps, were cherished greatly by Jin, hidden away from any prying eyes that might steal a look. Yet one day, as summer was coming to a close, Jin returned from the library to find every prying eye stealing looks.
“What the–?” Jin muttered as he attempted to open the door, only to find something– or someone, judging by the high-pitched “ow!” that sounded as Jin hit them with the door– blocking it. Eventually managing to squeeze through, Jin was in what was easily one of the most confusing scenarios of his life.
“Weren’t you in Busan?” Jin asked Jimin, who was sitting alongside someone Jin had never seen in his entire life, who the hell– “Who are you?” Jin asked the strange boy, who attempted to stifle his giggles, letting a box-shaped smile break through. He turned to the next person. “How in the hell did– who let you in here?” He asked Seokjung, who outright laughed at his younger brother’s obvious confusion. As Jin walked further in, he couldn’t help to notice his surroundings. “Why are you all sitting in a circle? How did you guys get so much alcohol in here? And why the candles? Are you guys prepping for some crazed sex party or–” Jin stopped, noticing something in the middle of the circle. A shoebox.
His letters.
“Welcome back, hyung!” Hoseok spoke brightly, which was impressive since Jin was two seconds away from killing him with his bare hands for taking his letters and passing them around like a joint. “We’ve decided to have a little party. Care to join us?”
