▂▂▂▂I folded a small blue t-shirt that belonged to Theo, placing it inside a drawer that contained some of his clothes. The compound wasn't a permanent residence, so we didn't want to start to mend it or give Theo a room like he had back in Texas. So, he had to make do with the bedroom I once had, but he loved it anyway.
I closed the drawer and scanned the room, wondering if I could keep myself occupied for longer. I moved towards the desk, running my hand along the wood, remembering the times I spent there before I was even pregnant. My eyes shifted towards the long length mirror so I moved over to it.
I held my hand up to my neck, applying pressure to the back of it as I stared at my reflection. The aching feeling in my body grew stronger, ever since Elijah died and we knew the Hollow had resurrected herself. And from all the magic I'd be using.
Taking in a deep breath, I made my way out of the room and headed towards the upstairs living room where I'd been working on retrieving our enemies weapons. As I entered, I felt a presence, my eyes flickering towards the figure.
My breath hitched in my throat at the sight of a face I hadn't seen for over a month, "Kol?"
He held his hands behind his back, moving one step forward, "Hi."
I took in a breath, not sure what exactly to do because the last time we spoke face to face, we had the biggest arguement. My eyes connected with his, "Hi."
It fell silent. Kol took another step forward before a small figure ran past me and towards him, "Uncle Kol!"
Kol bent, scooping Theo up in his arms. Theo wrapped his small arms around Kol's neck as he hugged him back. I stared at the two, a thin wall of tears filming over my eyes and a small smile flickered on my lips.
"Hey buddy." Kol said, pulling back to look at his face with a smile.
"I missed you." Theo told him, making my own smile grow wider.
"I missed you too." Kol replied, putting Theo back on his feet. Kol's gaze met mine for a breif moment before back to Theo's, "Is it okay if I speak with your mom alone?"
Theo nodded, "Yeah."
As he turned and walked towards the doorway, I ran my hand through his dark blonde hair, sending him a warm smile. I watched him head out of the door. As I turned back, Kol had moved a little closer to me.
"And I missed you." Kol said, his eyes soft, "A hell of a lot."
I took in a breath through my nostrils at his words before exhaling, "I missed you too."
"You know, I thought spending time away would make things easier." He said, "I thought it'd clear my mind but yet again, all I could think about was you."
"Kol -- "
" -- Cassie, please. Let me finish." He pleaded. I took in another deep breath as I nodded, unsure on what was going to fall from his mouth, "I love you, and I know that I always will. But I know what you feel for Klaus and I'm coming to accept that, Cassie. Because the thing is, I need you in my life. And if that's as friends, then so be it, because I'd rather that than not have you in my life at all."
