▂▂▂▂

The night passed and Klaus, along with Elijah and Marcel, had managed to bring Hope back to the compound. She was unconcious and the rusty dark magic shackles were clasped around her wrists to prevent The Hollow using any magic.

Klaus had spoken to her, saying that she had made him believe in something Elijah had once said to him, that family is power. It was heartbreaking to see her small frame lay helplessly on the bed, with only one way of helping her, to split her family apart.

Theo was with Freya, Kol, Rebekah and Vincent in the courtyard, whilst I was trying to find Klaus. After checking Klaus' study and seeing it was empty, I headed towards Elijah's.

"When the time comes, let me go." I heard Klaus say from inside as I got closer. I moved into the doorway to see the two in an embrace, something I hadn't seen for a long time. It made my heart ache.

They broke apart and Klaus turned to face me, as though he'd felt my presence, "Cassie."

"Hey," I simply responded. I'd wanted to talk to Klaus about the ritual but now I wanted to speak to Elijah about what Klaus meant, "I want a word with Elijah."

Klaus nodded as he moved towards me, "I have something I need to do too. I'll be back soon."

Klaus came to a halt beside me before gently placing a kiss to the side of my head. I gave him a small smile as he left the room. My attention turned to the older Mikaelson, who was still standing in the same spot.

I took slow steps towards him, "What exactly did Klaus mean by let him go?" Elijah hesitated, quietly clearing his throat as his gaze dropped from mine, "Elijah?"

He let out a sigh, finally looking at me, "No contact. No running to one another if there is any danger. No nothing."

A soft chuckle escaped my lips, "With you two? You've had your moments but you're inseperable. You're better off compelling it away."

The room fell silent and I noticed the look on Elijah's face. My humorous smile dropped into worry, "That was a joke."

"It's the only way." He spoke lowly, his tone deadly serious. This made my stomach turn. I was kidding but it happened to be something he was actually considering.

"Elijah, you can't." I shook my head, but his expression didn't change, "Do you think it's gonna help? Forgetting everything? Your family?"

"I won't remember, it will be all right." Elijah reassured, "You needn't worry, Cassandra."

"When I got years of memories wiped away, it was okay, I didn't remember." I told him, "And then they came back, and the pain of every single one shot through me like a million wooden stakes."

"They won't return." He replied, his voice still considerably low.

"And you're certain of that?" I questioned, "How are you going to cope without the thought of them? Without remembering every single good part? What if one of your enemies finds you and you have no idea who they are? Or one of your siblings dies? What if Theo wants to see you? What am I going to tell him?"

"That I'm gone." Elijah said, meeting my gaze with glossed over eyes, "Like the rest of his family."

"Except he can video call Kol, Rebekah, Freya, Hayley and Hope." I responded, "He will know something is up. He'll think you've abandonded him, Elijah. And what about Hayley? You love her."
