We graduated from Mario Kart and now moved onto Super Smash Brothers. That's what we are playing when a deep voice rings from the doorway. Everyone stops what they are doing and turns.
"Jayden." The voice says.
I even feel chills spread through my body as I hear the intimidating voice. I know immediately who it is, but I turn anyway. I confirm my thoughts as I see Alpha Renalds standing at the door. He looks pissed.
I feel Jayden shift under me and I realize that I need to get up as well because I'm still on his lap. I quickly blush from embarrassment. I stand and Jayden follows suit. I whimper internally as he walks away toward his father.
Everyone stays frozen and watches as Jayden crosses the room toward his dad. I feel my heart quicken as I start to get nervous without him near me. I was still using him as a security blanket. He exits the room and follows his dad down the hall.
Everyone relaxes and starts to talk and play games again. I stare off at the door, saddened and worried that Jayden has left.
Suddenly a hand touches my shoulder and I jump, surprised and a bit frightened.
"Relax Sophia it's just me." Vince says.
I turn and look into his eyes. He can probably see that I am somewhat scared because the next thing he does is remove his hand from me and takes a step back, giving me my space. I take a shaky breath and calm myself. I will be fine, just because Jayden isn't here doesn't mean anything. No one will hurt me. It's just Vince.
"Sorry... um what do you think that was about?" I ask.
Vince looks toward the door and shrugs. He plops back onto the couch.
"Who knows, Jayden always gets yelled at for the smallest things. His dad is strict with him. I guess it runs in the family. At least Alpha Renalds is more friendly than his father." Vince says.
I join him on the couch, sitting down where Jayden just was. I wonder what he is getting yelled at for now? I'm confused by their relationship.
"So Jayden's grandfather was strict?" I ask.
Vince snorts and leans up from the couch. "Strict is an understatement. This guy was crazy. I'm surprised Alpha Renalds isn't worse. He is probably able to calm his temper because he has his true mate. The Alpha's father had to be set up in his marriage. That poor woman..."
I stare at him dumbfounded.
"Jayden's grandfather never found his mate?" I ask.
Vince looks at me surprised. "No, he found her. She was just human. We aren't allowed to mate with humans."
Oh trust me, I know that. I huff and lean back onto the couch. That's crazy. So let me get this straight. Jayden's great grandfather made a law that made it illegal to mate with humans. Then his son, Jayden's grandfather, had a mate that was human. That wasn't allowed so he had an arranged marriage. Then his kid got his mate, who was a werewolf. Now Jayden's mate is me. I'm half werewolf, half human.
The thing is... I'm a half breed. That's not against the law. Jayden can mate with me if he wants so I don't see why Alpha Renalds hates me so much. Ugh, I feel like there is so much more to this that I don't know.
"I think I'm going to walk around." I say to Vince.
He looks at me concerned. I show no sign of being anything but confusion so he smiles and nods.
"Alright, see you around kid."
I hop off the couch and make it out of the room. I look around and I remember that I never got a tour of this place and I don't know my way around. That's lovely. I guess I will just wander to clear my head.
