S1E8

~Next Day~

"Good morning beautiful."
"I got your letter."
"And?"
"And I thought it was very heartfelt but it won't change the fact that I'll probably never feel secure in our relationship."
"But you can! Elena was the same way at first when we started going out because of Kathrine!" He blurts out.
"You dated Kathrine too?" I semi yell in surprise.
"I didn't tell you that did I?"
"Goodbye Damon." I hang up the phone before he could respond. The letter was on my nightstand when I woke up. I assume Danny or my parents put it there when they got the mail this morning and left it for me until I woke up. I take it and toss it into the trash. Not only do I have to compete with his memory of Elena but Kathrine's too. Every second I feel a future relationship with Damon slip away.

"Sky there's someone at the door for you!" I really just wanted to lock myself in my room and push the world out this weekend. Instead I speed down the stairs.
"Tyler, hey!"
"Morning. Cute pajamas by the way." I forgot I still was in my pjs and that my hair was still untouched. I was wearing a black tank top and short hello kitty shorts. My cheeks turn bright red and I swiftly run my hand through my hair.
"What are you doing here?"
"I was thinking we could hang out today. Maybe grab something to eat and go watch a movie at my place."
"Sounds great let's go!"
"Umm Sky," he pauses before pointing at my shorts. "Your pajamas."
"What you're not a fan of my attire?" I laugh before running up to my room and changing.

"That was quick."
"Let's go." We grab brunch and sit around talking. Tyler didn't fail to make me laugh so hard that it hurt.
"Hey you two."
"Hey Care," I smile at her.
"What do we have here?"
"We just came to grab something to eat."
"Is this a date?" She squeals. Tyler doesn't say anything and I'm not sure now either. I thought this was just a friend thing.
"Is it?" I tilt my head at him.
"No we're just friends." An uncomfortable silence falls among us.
"Sorry if I made this awkward. I'll see you two around." Caroline waves and runs off to her car.

"This isn't a date?"
"Of course not. I know you like Damon and I more like see you as my best friend slash sister."
"And if there was no Damon?"
"Well you are beautiful, but I don't see you that way."
"Oh, okay. Well I love you Lockwood, in a brotherly way." We both laugh and stand up from the outdoor table we sat at. He comes around and hugs me before we walk hand in hand to his house.

"So do you plan on telling me why you're all tensed up and distant?"
"What? I am not!"
"You so are. What's up Sky?"
"Why hasn't anyone told me he dated Kathrine?"
"Probably to protect you."
"What about you?"
"I honestly didn't think it was my place to tell. I'm sorry."
"So he was serious about another one of my look a-likes?"
"Sort of. Kathrine was a bitch that played him and Stefan. She pretended to be in love with the both of them, but really she only loved Stefan. Damon spent countless years trying to find her after the burning of vampires because he thought she was trapped down there. In reality she made a deal to get out of there and was free ever since. She came and made trouble for everyone until karma caught up to her and she died."
"He loved her?"
"He thought it was love. Now he knows it wasn't because love was him and Elena. I think love is him and you."
"Why us?"
"You got him to turn back his emotions just by saying that you loved him. He's not really sure if you said it because you meant it or said it to save him. I know you meant those three words."
"How do I know he loves me for me?"
"I guess you just have to trust him. I've seen him with Elena, and I see him with you. This is way different then before. He's open and vulnerable. I've never seen this side of Damon in the century I've spent with him until he met you. You've changed him for what I believe the better."
"You're team Damon," I laugh.
"No, I'm team Skylar all the way. You've become my best friend and the person I want to talk to about everything and anything."
"You're my best friend too Tyler. Love you Lockwood, but I think I have to go dive in the waters."
"Nervous?"
"Scared out of my freaking mind, but maybe this blind leap of faith will be best in the long run. See ya around."

~Salvatore Boarding House~

"Damon!" I call as I walk into the house. The door seems to be always unlocked so I let myself in.
"Skylar what are you doing here?" He asks frantically.
"I came to talk to you about... about us."
"Us? I didn't think there was an us."
"I didn't think there was either, but I can't keep denying my feelings anymore."

"Damon who's at the door?" Some ginger enters the room, wrapped in a bedsheet.
"Who's that?"
"Skylar I can explain!"
"Save it Damon. I knew this was a mistake. You've officially buried any type of relationship we had or could have had. Have a great rest of eternity." I flip him off before running out to my car.

Speed and adrenaline run through my viens. "Right when I'm about to give him a chance he goes off and sleeps with some random bimbo. So much for love!" I rant to Tyler on the phone. It hurt my chest." I think of the words I was going to say tonight. It all felt so right. Then I think of all the words I should've said before. I was an idiot. I wanted Damon Salvatore badly, but my own mind kept getting in the way."
"It'll be okay Sky. You still have me."
"Thank y..." There was something on the road, and when I grow closer it was a person standing on the bridge. I jerk to miss it and end up going over the raining and falling into the water. The airbags explode and I hit my head on the window. It all hurts now. It all slowly slips away.
