3 weeks later

It was a normal day for Daniel, he woke up to get ready for school, already excited because it was Friday. He ate breakfast with his grandparents while he waited for his mother to come pick him up for school.

When Dinah picked him up, they talked a little until she dropped him off. He talked and played with his friends, whenever he wasn't doing his work, until it was time to go home.

But this was the part that wasn't normal. Well, it hasn't been normal for a month or so.

Daniel saw his mama's truck in front of his school, and when he saw Normani step out of the truck and start walking up to him, he instantly ran up to her and hugged her and never wanted to let go because he missed her so much.

Normani giggled and hugged her son back with even more excitement. "I have some great news for you, baby boy!" She smiled at him. "But I have to tell you in the car."

Daniel grinned up at his mother and immediately ran to the car, waiting for his mother to unlock the doors so he can get in. "What are you waiting for mama? You have to tell me the news!" He said anxiously.

Normani shook her head and laughed at her son, but getting in the car anyways.

"We get to spend the weekend together?!" The almost 8 year old boy asked loudly, disturbing the other customers in the ice cream shop. "Like...the whole weekend?"

Normani nodded and ate another scoop of her mint chocolate chip ice cream. "I dont have to work until Monday."

Daniel squirmed in his seat excitedly, he was already planning on things to do with his mama this weekend. He hadn't been able to spend some actual time with her in a few weeks, so he was literally jumping at this opportunity.

"So, how is your basketball coming along?" Normani asks the brownskinned boy who had cookies and cream ice cream smeared all over his chin and a little on his nose.

"Mom has taught me how to dribble with both of my hands. " he said nonchalantly. "Oh! And she also bought me new shoes for tryouts." He responded, this time more excited.

Normani hummed. "Thats nice of her. When are tryouts?"

"At the end of this month, so that means I only have 2 weeks and a half to prepare." He said nervously.

Normani smiled and palmed his cheek. "You'll be great, baby."

Daniel smiled and continued to messily eat his ice cream.

Normani and her son were now at Normani's parents house catching up. They've been talking more about Daniel and how he's been doing without seeing Normani everyday, all day. They also talked about Normani's job and how she and her team is almost finished with the case.

For the last couple of hours, they were watching movies in the living room until they were tired enough to call it a night.

Normani watched Daniel, whom was sitting in her lap, yawn as he tried to keep his tired eyes open and focused on the screen. She softly smiled at him and lightly patted his arm, silently telling him to let her up.

She stretched her limbs and yawned herself once her bare feet touched the cold floor. She winced at the uncomfortable feeling and went upstairs to check her phone for the time, and also checking for any missed calls or messages.

Sure enough, there was a text from Jilly telling her that she was coming over to see Daniel the next morning. And surprisingly a missed call from Dinah.
