Chapter 10

Chapter Ten

I had another nightmare.

My head was pressed against the floor even though I had to stand up. And I was so scared. I couldn't get up no matter how hard I tried.

It was Lisa again to wake me up.

"You had another nightmare" she whispered and she had one hand on my shoulder.

"Go away" I said wiping the tears out of my face.

Lisa sighed.

"Lauren, please. I can't do this anymore. I know you're hurt. I see the pain in your eyes. I want to help you. Tell me how."

"Just let me alone. We had this conversation a millionth times."

"I know. But you didn't get better."

I sat up quickly.

"Just let me alone, Lisa! I mean it!" I said louder.

"What's wrong?" Dani said from above my bed. We woke her up.

"Nothing, Dani. Go back to sleep" I said.

"Stop it, Lauren! I'm really worried about you." Lisa looked at me and she did look worried.

"You should have thought about this before you destroyed everything!"

"You have no idea what you are talking about!"

"Oh, really? Are you serious? You were the one to press me to that stupid floor. You had your hand over my mouth. I couldn't do anything, Lisa! And I had to look at everything!"

"Then what should I have done? Tell me, Lauren!" Lisa screamed and I saw Dani climbing out her bed.

"Please stop it! Calm down. Both of you!"

We ignored her.

"You should have let me go save him! He was my best friend, for goodness sake! And it was my job to save him."

"You couldn't do anything and you know that!"

"Thank you for being so sure about that!" I snapped. I was so angry. I don't know if I've ever felt more anger. I stood up from my bed, walking up and down in our room.

"They had guns, Lauren, and knives!"

"You didn't even apologize!"
Mom was right I repeated myself but I had no idea what else to say.

"Yes! Because I will never apologize for saving your life!"

"I could have saved him! I could have done it but you had to come with us. He is supposed to be here with me now. And you stopped me from saving his life!"

"That's not true, Lauren and you know that! Stop persuading yourself!"

"You ruined everything!"

"Do you think I enjoyed seeing them making fun of you? They freaking joked about how to kill you, Lauren and they laughed about every try of you helping him. You had no chance!"

There were tears in Lisa's eyes but I didn't understand them. I didn't understand how this world worked. I didn't understand anything.

"I had!" I screamed. Tears were running down my cheeks, too while our other sisters came into our room. They looked at us shocked.

"Okay, I think I should move out. Maybe then you'll get over everything." Lisa then said but I thought about what dad said earlier.

I shook my head.

"I'll go", I said.

"Don't be stupid. You can't move out."

"Never. Ever tell me what I can and what I can't do!" I threatened and finally I saw a little fear in her eyes.

"Lauren, stop it" I heard Katherine say from the door. But I didn't want anyone to talk to me. I wanted to go away.

"JUST LET ME GO! UNDERSTAND? NOONE CAN HOLD ME BACK! LET ME ALONE!" I screamed and then I took my shoes and a jacket and run out of the room. I saw my little brothers at the stairs. They were shocked too and thank God they didn't try to talk to me. Otherwise my sisters. They were screaming for me to come back. But I ran the fastest I could and then I was outside and didn't stop running.

Memories were coming back. My head hurt and I wanted everything to stop. Why didn't it stop?
