Chapter Seven

I was so tired the next morning even though it was 11:30 am when Mom woke me up. When I saw her face, I knew she had another plan. Lisa was sitting in her bed painting her nails. She didn't look at me and I was happy about it. Because I had no idea what to do.

"So your father and I decided that you should do something together today" she said smiling. I tiredly rubbed my eyes hating her in that moment.

"Well this restaurant where you once performed contacted us asking if you would perform again. And your father and I said yes." she said. I looked at her confused and sat up.

"Wow. So another concert with the band. That's not even punishment."

"Lauren, if you believe it or not I don't want to punish you."

"Yeah, whatever. Then we have to tell the others." I said and yawned.

"Not the whole band will sing, Lauren. Just the two of you"

I was shocked. Why did she do that? Lisa looked up and she was shocked too.

"Are you serious?", she asked and Mom nodded.

"You have the whole day to practice some songs. It doesn't have to be much.

"But Mom. We can't.... we don't have... you can't perform without..."

"That's the point, Lauren. You need to find a way to trust each other on stage. You need to find your dynamic again. You used to sing together all the time so it shouldn't be that hard."

I was so annoyed about this.

"I'll drive you tonight. Be ready at seven." Mom then turned around and left and I just looked at the door not believing what just happened.

I sighed and was mad at Lisa even though I knew it wasn't her idea.

"I'll eat breakfast" I said and walked downstairs. Someone made pancakes and so I eat some when Lisa came down.

"I made a list with songs we could sing. If you want something else, just tell me."

I looked through it carefully.

"Sounds okay to me." I said.

"Really? It's okay if you want to change something."

"No. It's okay. Just give me a second to take a shower and then we can practice."

"Sure, take all the time you need."

I wanted to stay in the shower forever because I didn't want to perform with only Lisa. Not only because it was Lisa but also because we would have to sing even more parts and I don't want to mess up. I was so nervous before all of our performances and now I only have a few hours to practice.

We practiced a lot and at the same time we didn't want to lose our voices. And then we had to get ready.

I just put on a black pair of jeans and a Shirt. Then I put a flannel around my waist and looked at me in the mirror. I wanted this day to end soon. I didn't want to perform in front of all the people that would come to see us. Maybe they only come to see Lisa.

Mom drove us to the restaurant and left afterwards. We could prepare in a room we sat quietly in. I got more nervous by the second and so I played with my fingers. Mom even took my phone for the night so I couldn't distract myself with it.

"Are you nervous?", Lisa asked. She sat on a bench looking at me with sympathy.

"Just a little" I said.

"I think we will do great", Lisa said.

"That's easy for you to say." I said rolling my eyes. Lisa looked at me questioning.

"Why?"

"Because they love everything you're doing. You don't even need to try."

"That's not true" Lisa said.

"Of course, it is! Just let it go."

"Hey, they love you too."

"Just stop it." She wanted to say something but I gave her a look and so she stopped.

Everyone loved Lisa and everything seemed to be so easy for her. Sometimes I feel like fans love her much more than they love me.

It was time to go on stage and my hands were shaking.

"We have some really special guests tonight" the boss of the restaurant said.

"Please welcome Lisa and Lauren Cimorelli!" he screamed and I heard people clapping and screaming and then we went out. Lisa went first whispering that it was going to be okay. I followed her and waved at everyone. Now we had to pretend that everything was fine. We had to pretend that we were not only sisters but also best friends.

We started with Million Bucks and it was actually pretty good. Then we sang renegade and I sang Dani's part and Lisa did the rest with me harmonizing. We sang ten songs and it was pretty fun actually. I only forgot to sing once and Lisa covered it for me. She also forgot to sing once and then I covered for her. And people were laughing and crying and screaming. They had signs with our names on it and I really enjoyed singing.

Then Lisa and I went back to the room. We got free pizza and after that we walked home because Mom didn't want to pick us up. She wanted us to spend as much time alone together as possible.

"It was good, wasn't it?" Lisa asked. I shrugged.

"Yeah, it really was."

"Have you seen all the people that knew every word to our songs?"

"Yes, that was cool."

After that we walked quietly home where Mom sat on the couch.

"Hey girls! How was it?"

"It was really fun!" Lisa answered. I nodded but walked up the stairs.
I sat down on my bed and was really tired. Somehow the day was exhausting. Shortly after me Lisa entered the room and she smiled at me.

"So do you want to do something? Like watching a movie or something?" she asked. I looked at her tiredly.

"Lisa" I just said.

"What?" she asked and she was clearly confuse.

"Nothing changed."

"Oh, sure. Right. Sorry" she said and tried to smile but I knew she was sad. But she didn't even apologized. She turned around and left and Dani stood behind her. She looked at me confused.

"What was that about? I thought you had a good day together."

"You don't understand that" I said looking away from her.

"You are right. But I think you don't even understand yourself."

She left but I was happy about that.

Later Christina came into my room. She sat down on the mattress besides me with ice cream in her hand. She handed me a spoon and the pot and then we just sat there eating the cold sugary cream.

"So Lauren, do you want to talk about something?" Christina asked after some minutes passed.

"Stop it. Don't destroy the moment."

"Please. I want you to know that I'm there for you. If you want to talk. I'm here."

"I know. Thank you. But I'm good."

"I don't think that's true."

"Please Christina. You're totally ruining this."

"Okay, okay. I just want you to be happy."

"But I am happy."

"No you're not. And I'm sick of you pretending it is."

"Please, I want to go to sleep."

Christina sighed and then she stood up.

"Goodnight, Lauren. Love you."
