Avi's P.O.V

I was sat on one of the chairs in the nurses office with Matt at my side. He kept glancing worriedly at the clock. We had only been there for three minutes.

"Hey Avi, I wanted to ask you why you were crying earlier." He asked. I looked up. He was searching my eyes for an answer as if he could read me.

"I can't read you." He said.

"Stop turning this into a Twilight novel." I said laughing to myself. He smiled. His eyes were turning green. They were oddly amazing.

"How about an answer Doll Face?" He said as he poked me. A buzz shot through me.

"Uh don't worry about it." I said brushing it off.

"Please, please tell me." He insisted. I hadn't noticed his face was only 3 inches away from mine. His breath smelled minty. It was almost dizzying.

"Okay the blondes ripped my book to shreds and then they spit on me. Then they started calling me fatherless." I could feel the rage in my voice. His expression hardened.

"They're just bitchy whores in need of attention sweetheart." He said winking. I smiled.

"Matt, honey, what are you doing here?" I heard a woman's British accent ask.

"Hey Mum. This is Avi. She collapsed at the beginning of 3rd and we needed her checked out. What are you doing here?" He said hugging the woman.

"Oh I just needed to drop some stuff off for Martha. Nice to meet you Avi! I'm Mrs. Tennant, Matt's mother." She held out her hand. I shook her hand.

"The pleasure is mine, Mrs. Tennant." I smiled. She was beautiful. Her blonde hair was pulled up and her make-up was done to perfection. Her brown eyes were bright and her smile was so cute.

"Wow Matt! She's gorgeous!" Mrs. Tennant sang. Matt rolled his eyes.

"Mum! I haven't even had a full conversation with her yet." He said laughing.

"Thank you, Mrs. Tennant. You are beautiful too." I said. She laughed.

"Oh honey, call me Billie, and stop being such a doll!" She said winking. She strut out of the office. Matt was staring at me.

"How'd you do that?" He said.

"Do what?"

"You are the only person other than family members and close friends that call her anything other than Mrs. Tennant. You are on a first name basis with my mother. Oh yeah, by the way, i told you so." He pointed a finger at me.

"Told me so what?"

"Even my mother thinks you're a doll." He said. I blushed.

"Avi how are you feeling? I'm Mrs. Jones. I'm the school nurse." The woman was short and pretty. Her black hair was in a clip at the back of her head.

"I feel fine!"

"Then what are you here for?"

"We just needed to get her checked out because she fainted during 3rd period." Matt cut in. Mrs. Jones flashes him a smile. I bet they knew each other too.

...

"I told you, Matt." I said as we ran back to class. We had 30 minutes of science left and we wanted to make it. Don't ask why.

"Shut up. I just didn't want my Dad to freak because I didn't take you to the nurse when he specifically asked me to." He said rolling his eyes. I hadn't noticed until now, but he had an accent. A light British accent. I wasn't going to make a big deal of it though. I have to admit, it's pretty damn cute.

"What was the room number?" I asked nobody in particular but still I got an answer.

"1105. You should really pay more attention to your schedule." He said. I started to look at the doors. 1102, 1103, 1104, aha. There it was.

Matt opened the door and I walked in.

"Took you long enough. What were you doing, snogging in the hallway?" Mr. Tennant said. He smiled at me and I smiled back but what I really wanted to do was disappear into thin air. Matt laughed.

"Well go on then, to your seats." He said pointing at the only empty seats in the classroom. All 20 pairs of eyes were trained on me. I wanted to die.

I barely made it to my seat without jumping out of the window. I sat down and right on my desk was a thick stack of papers that were no doubt the information sheets. I read through them. It was gonna be an interesting year.

Mr. Tennant was talking about our first project assignment and that he had sorted people in to groups of two. He was calling out the names of the people in the groups and handing out the packets of projects. Apparently they were all different.

"Avi and Matt, you both will have to create an organism along with its planet and special adaptations." Mr. Tennant said. I got up and walked toward the front. Matt was right on my heels. He reached right over me to grab the packets. I turned around and looked up. He looked down at me and smiled. He handed me the packet.

"Here you go short-stack." He said. I rolled my eyes as I grabbed it.

"Please don't call me that, Jolly Green Giant." I said. Everyone laughed. Mr. Tennant chuckled.

"I think you make a good pair." He winked. The bell rang and the tsunami of idiots flooded the hallways. I ran to grab my stuff and slipped.

I was falling.
