Micah grumbles under his breath as we sit on the couch with the Sheriff and a detective. It's already ten in the morning but we were planning on sleeping in until at least one today. I mean, I think we deserve at least that since we almost died last night. Oh, and the fact that Micah saved everybody.

"I understand it was your service dog that detected the bomb first, is that correct?" The detective asks.

Micah glances down at Human who dozes at his feet. At least the dog gets to sleep in.

"Yes, sir, Human found the bomb," Micah answers.

The detective nods his head. "Has he been trained to find such things?"

Micah shakes his head. "No, he didn't get to train when he was part of the canine unit for the Florida Marine Corps, and Jonah and I trained him as my service dog ourselves,"

"The Florida Marines you say?"

"Yeah, I was in the US Marines until May when I got discharged. Human was just a puppy and too aggressive to be trained. They were going to put him down but then I adopted him instead,"

The detective jots down notes as Micah talks.

"So," The detective continues. "You were trained then, were you trained to disable a bomb?"

"Yes, sir,"

He jots down more notes. "You do realize that if you cut the wrong wire it could have set it off early?"

Micah glares at the man. "I know perfectly well," His anger shows clearly. "I've personally seen men and woman killed from cutting a wrong wire. Don't try to tell me about what could have happened when I've seen firsthand what kind of destruction a blast could cause,"

The detective blinks at him before nodding. "I am sorry, sir, I wasn't implying that you didn't know. I am just making sure," He then looks to me. "You were the one to call in?" He asks.

I nod my head. "Yeah,"

He reaches into the satchel he brought with and pulls out my shattered iPhone.

"Is this yours?"

I nod my head. "Yes,"

He places the phone on the coffee table. "I have the conversation from dispatch so I won't ask you anything about the phone call. I want to thank you for calling it in though, even with such little time left,"

I nod my head with nothing to say. The detective then smiles at us.

"We were lucky to have you both at the reunion last night," The Sheriff says. "Micah, I've heard good things about you from when you still lived here. I am very grateful that you accepted our invitation to come back,"

Micah gives him an awkward smile. "Yeah,"

The Sheriff then nods and stands up. "That's all the questions we have right now, but please stay in the area and with a phone just in case we have more questions,"

Micah and I both stand up and shake their hands. Then they leave the house quickly with Emily taking their place.

"I am still shaking from the news," Emily whines. "Micah, honey, you did a dangerous thing, but I am so glad you could disable that bomb,"

Micah smiles and moves to hug her. "I know ma, but if I didn't everyone there would have died,"

That's when it hits me. If Micah wasn't there everyone at the reunion would have died. That's why we had to come. It wasn't a warning for me to go, it was a warning for Micah to go. I was thinking I had to be there to protect Micah when all along it was Micah who had to protect everyone else.
