I’d been doing my best to avoid him, but I can’t help it when my parents decide that I can look after myself, I really have no one else to talk to. But while he thinks that my parents are home, I have reason enough not to talk to him. Stef had told me that she’d received a fair number of text messages from him the most recent asking her out on a date. A pang of jealousy ran through me upon hearing that.

That night, I jumped across the gap and tapped on his window. “You do know that I’m the only one home right?” He grinned lopsidedly as he offered me his hand, allowing me to step into his room.

“Who’s to say that I’m not though?” I revoked, taking his hand and gracefully landing on the floor.

“Sarah, we both know that you’re home alone. Your parents called you yesterday afternoon, and I’m betting that they’ll still be away for another week at least.” He guessed pretty accurately and I nodded shamefully.

“Two weeks.” I corrected, “But it doesn’t mean that I can’t visit my best friend the same way I have for the past seven years. Does it?” I questioned.

He sat down on the end of his bed. “Why have you been avoiding me then?”

I sighed and sat down next to him. “You and her.”

“Kate?” He asked.

I shook my head and twiddled my fingers in my lap. “No not her. Stef.”

He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “What about us?”

“Don’t make me say this. You know exactly why.”

He stayed silent a moment, looking up at me every so often. “I love you, you know that right?”

“I used to.”

So this was the fallout.
