I woke up, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes and loudly yawning. It dawned on me that I wasn’t alone in the tent, but something that was bothering me even more was that I was lying on his chest. My eyes widened but I was in no hurry to move. Most likely because he had a rather firm grip on my hips so more to the point, I couldn’t move if I wanted to. No longer was I cold though and I remembered that I was in his jumper.

Resting my head back on his chest, I thought I might still be there for a while. I drew little patterns on his chest (on his t-shirt) and did some serious thinking. We were like this now, but later today we’d be hating each other again. We couldn’t be somewhere in between because we’d passed the friendship barrier a couple of weeks ago and there was no going back on that. But we couldn’t be like this because he had a girlfriend and they were official now.

“Morning beautiful.” He grinned and I looked up at him.

“Hi.” I answered back, sheepishly.

“What?” He asked sleepily grinning, pulling himself up onto his elbows letting go of my hips, which, I don’t think he realised he had a grip on until he let go.

I shrugged. “Nothing.” You never call me beautiful. “We should probably get up about now.” You didn’t realise you were holding me either. “Everyone else is up I think.” You didn’t have to let me go.

“Is that your jumper?” Connie asked as Josh and I both exited the tent and sat around the burnt out campfire. I blushed and shook my head. She laughed lightly trying not to draw attention to me while our parents began to take down the tents.

“We’re moving campsites. But the one we’re staying at tonight, we’ll be staying at tomorrow night as well.” Clare explained. She stopped a moment, looking at the two of us who had just emerged from the tent. “Nice jumper.” She commented while smirking causing me to blush even harder.

“This campsite’s only a forty minute drive away and I was thinking maybe we could go for a hike once we get there.” Mum suggested.

“Great idea.” Clare agreed.

“Where exactly are we going?” Josh asked as we finished packing the cars.

“Down the creek.” Dan answered. “And you two don’t have to go on the hike. I think the water’ll be fresh enough for a dip if you’re game enough.”

I went a shade of pink remembering the bright red bikini I’d packed just in case. “Sure.” I mumbled stiffly.

“Everybody in the car.” Clare called and we all stacked into our cars (respectively).

Was there nobody who couldn’t see how close we were without seeing the tension? Apparently not. But looking at the bigger picture, we were just two fish in the sea.
