There were at least eighty of us all squashed into the West Wing of the gardens and presumably the smallest. Drinks were being passed out at the door and the house was otherwise out of bounds except for uses of bathrooms and I’m tempted to say bedrooms.
“Sarah right?” A guy called from behind me. He casually draped his arm across my shoulders and squashed himself between me and the next person, trying to actually talk to me. His smile was perfect; teeth all straight, his eyes were the colour of the sky just after a storm had passed and hair was dark brown and cut with choppy bangs, shielding the top half of his eyes.
“That’s me.” I replied meekly.
“I’m Cole.” He offered me his hand and I promptly shook it. “I’ve seen you around before, at school, but never at parties. Does that boyfriend of yours have to always keep you to himself?” He joked.
“Luke and I aren’t together anymore.” I blurted suddenly.
“Luke? I was talking about Josh.” He looked across the backyard at Josh, who had a drink in one hand and Kate holding onto the other. “Oh, my mistake. I didn’t realise that he was taken. So you’re here alone?”
I shrugged. I was here with Josh and Kate, but they’d ditched me the first chance they got. “I suppose I am.”
I was always taught to be patient and wait for the best for good things come to those who wait, but when a guy this good comes along, it probably only happens once in a blue moon. Right now I’ll just take what I can get.
