The next week dragged on and on, but that didn’t stop Cole from sneaking kisses whenever he could and by then everyone else realised that there was something going on between us.  What was bugging me though was Josh. He’d been giving me the cold shoulder since his party, hesitant about driving me to school. All the trips were either silent or had the radio blasting. There was no conversation to be had between us.

When Friday came around, Cole wasn’t at school. I wasn’t worried as such, because he’d wagged on Tuesday, but this was different. I got home and they were all packing getting ready to leave, claiming that they’d get dinner on the way, I asked them to wish Ben well in his game and they left. Clare, Dan and Ben had all packed and were planing on leaving after my parents but what got me was that Josh hadn’t packed.

“Where’s Josh?” I asked curiously as I helped them packed the last of their stuff.

“In his room. He’s decided not to come with us.” Dan explained shrugging. “Too bad for him really. Ben was really upset that he wouldn’t go, but otherwise he’s okay.”

I nodded and looked up at the house. “Well have a good time. Good luck Ben.” I waved to him as he crossed the front lawn.

He grinned at me and pulled me into a hug. Even though he was a good three years younger than me, he was just under a head taller than me. “I will.” He lowered his voice and loosened his grip on me a little bit. “Look after him will you? He won’t tell me what’s up... you know him best, find out for me would you? I know you will.” He kissed me lightly on my head and got in the car with Dan and Clare.

I called Cole and was sent to voicemail unsurprisingly. I was kind of nervous about Saturday  partly because I couldn’t cook and Josh was being uncertain with himself therefore me also.

If it wasn’t enough to worry about, I had a date that wasn’t a date, with a boy who wasn’t my boyfriend while I had to look after my best friend who isn’t acting like my best friend.
