Demi's ecstatic about tomorrow and what Justin has planned. She knows that he'll come up with something creative. One year. One whole year with Justin. It's been nothing but happiness and love. He treats her like a princess: protecting her from everything that tries to harm her, comforting her in her worst of times, and loving her no matter what they go through together. Tomorrow will be amazing.
Coming out of her thoughts, she watches Justin play with their new puppy that the two of them adopted last weekend. If there's anything that Justin loves more than Demi, it's the dog. Slinky, the couple decided to name it, practically jumped at Justin when the couple were looking at them. Justin knew for sure that that was going to be their new pup. She's been coming in second next to the dog this whole week. It gets to be irritating but she understands. Nothing could really ruin her mood right now, anyway. All she can think about is having an extraordinary anniversary with Justin tomorrow.
- The Next Day -
Demi is woken up by Slinky curling up right in her neck. The soft, light brown fur of the puppy tickles her gently and she giggles a bit. When she realizes that she's awake and it's the day she's been waiting for, she can't help but smile. Demi jumps out of bed and find her favourite dress in her closet and throws it on. Her phone vibrates on the nightstand, with a new message from Justin;
"Hey, babe. I'm coming over in 15 k? :)"
Thinking about what he'll have in his hands when he walks in, she responds with a quick,
"okay x :)"
She then finishes getting ready and feeds Slinky. A few minutes later the doorbell rings. And the day begins, Demi thought to herself. No flowers, no chocolates, no card, not even a kiss, is given to her by Justin. Disappointed, she just waits for him to tell her what he's got planned. But to her surprise, nothing is mentioned. In fact, all that is mentioned is the dog and when it should be fed again and when it needs to go to the vet. Hours pass and Justin still hasn't said anything about their anniversary.
When it comes to be dinner time, Demi's last hope is tested. She's tired of waiting, so she proceeds to take control of today.
"J, I'm hungry. Where do you wanna go for dinner?" She asks innocently.
"Er, I'm not all that hungry right now." Justin says stroking the puppy's back. Demi looks at him and the anger builds up.
"That's it! I can't take it anymore! Maybe you can take the dog out to dinner for it's one week ANNIVERSARY!" Demi shouts with emphasis on 'anniversary' so Justin could catch on.
Nevertheless, Justin looks at Demi confused.
"Fuck you!" Demi yells after a minute of silence. She ran out of the house and she ran fast.
After a good three blocks, she ran into the small and hidden park where she can be alone and just cry.
How could he forget? It's been a whole year, you think that'd mean something, right?
Thinking about all this made Demi cry a little harder, however, she tried to be quiet.
"Babe?" Demi hears Justin slightly out of breath. "There you are! What's going on?" He asks, clueless.
"Oh, nothing. I felt like I haven't cried in a while, so I needed to get it out," she replied with complete sarcasm.
"It's not funny, what did I do?" He asked, completely serious.
"IT'S OUR DAMN ANNIVERSARY AND YOU FORGOT!" Demi raises her voice. Justin stared at her with a thinking face.
"No, it's not." He states. What?! This threw her off.
"Yes, it is!" Demi argued.
"Babe, no it isn't," he pauses, "that's tomorrow." Justin laughs. He watches the expression on her face go from angry to worried.
"What?" Demi asked softly.
"Our one year anniversary isn't until tomorrow baby. I would never forget that." He replies. "I would never ever forget the best year with the best girlfriend I've ever had, trust me." He smiles, rubbing her back comfortingly. All of the sudden, she felt really bad. Not only did he not forget, but she did. This makes this ten times worse and she broke down again.
"How could I not remember?" She cried out as she put her head into her hands.
"It's alright. This is why I love you, because you make cute mistakes and you mess up on accident. It makes everything a lot more exciting. You didn't think I would come up empty handed for the big twelve months did you?" He smiled. "C'mon, it's starting to rain." Justin gets up and grabs her hand. Demi began to walk back and the rain begins to fall harder.
"I'm sorry." Demi says while picking up her pace. Justin stops her and stands to face her.
"I love you, babe. We're gonna laugh about this on our 20th anniversary and talk about how I kissed you in the rain after you tried to apologize for a stupid mistake." He said.
Confused, Demi looked up at him and said, "You didn't kiss me in the rain? This isn't some sappy love stor-" Justin brings his lips to Demi's and they share a long, sweet yet cliché kiss in the rain. After he slowly pulls away, he moves the pieces of her hair sticking to her face out of the way.
"Now I did." He smiles. Then, pulling off his jacket, he wraps Demi up in it and runs with her back to his house where the two of them change into his dry clothes and watch movies all night until she drifts into a deep sleep. All she can dream of is how amazing tomorrow will actually be, the second time around.
