"Maybe, just maybe, it's your fault, not mine." Justin pressed his face against Demi's, his arms on either side of her, holding her in place as he continued on his rant. "You're always complaining and nagging me, and you're so damn needy. God, I don't even know why we're together. I can't stand your constant whining." As Justin's words spilled past his lips, she clenched her jaw, staring at the wall over his shoulder and attempting to ignore his painful, angry words.
"Justin, no, you're..." She hated how small and frail her voice sounded compared to Justin's harsh, angry tone, and she winced at the cracks in her voice.
"Oh shut up, Demi. I've had enough of this." As Justin spoke, he dropped his arms back to his sides, and she darted past him, running upstairs to the bedroom. The sound of Justin's footsteps on the stairs only hastened her packing, and she quickly brushed away the tears clouding her vision as she attempted to gather what was necessary.
"What are you doing?" Justin's voice - a lot softer now, interrupted Demi's desperate attempts to distance herself from the gaping hole in her heart, and she tried to hold her sobs back, keeping her back to him, hoping it would close him off. Despite her efforts, Justin rounded towards her, standing beside her open suitcase as she continued to ignore him, letting the silence create a barrier between the two of them.
"Demi? What are you doing?" Justin placed his hand on the suitcase, closing it and preventing her from putting in anything else.
"Going away." the four syllables that passed her lips made her throat constrict as she realized how permanent those words sounded, how final. Justin parted his lips to say something else, but Demi interrupted him, not wanting to hear his overused and stupid excuses, "I'm sick of this, Justin. I don't want to be in a relationship where all we do is fight. You said so yourself that you didn't know why we were together, and now you won't have to wonder. Now, please get your hand off of my suitcase so I can leave." Without waiting another second, she grabbed the heavy luggage, expertly zipping it with a harsh yank. As Demi was about to open the door, she turned and saw a stunned Justin, his eyes brimming with tears, and she sucked in a breath, hoping that her next words would not only convince him, but her as well. "I'm sorry J, but this is for the best. It's better this way." And with those words, words that she didn't truly believe, she disappeared through the door.
