'Daddy?' Justin furrowed his brows as he tried to move closer to the noise. He untangled himself from around his wife to see his little crying boy at his bedside.
'What's wrong?' He asked wiping sleep from his eyes and reaching out for the caramel haired, hazel eyed little boy.
'I can't sleep, zombies get me if I close my eyes.' he pouted as Justin tried not to smile at his adorable three year old little boy.
'Come on buddy,' he whispered as he slipped his arms from under Demi and got out of the bed, pulling on some PJ pants over his boxers. He put his finger over his lips and Matthew copied him so they wouldn't wake up Demi who had an early business meeting the next day.
Justin took his son's hand as they walked out of the bedroom and he lifted him when they got to the stairs so he was resting on his hip.
'Where we going?' Matthew asked as his legs wrapped around his waist and his arms were locked around his shoulders.
'I know a secret drink that zombies hate and if you drink it they will say away from my little prince. Sound good?' His eyes widened and he nodded rapidly and Justin kissed his cheek.
He switched the light on in the kitchen and sat Matthew on the counter as he switched the kettle on and waited for the water to boil. He chatted away about his nursery as Justin got a mug out for himself and a little one for Matthew and began making their drinks.
He added whipped cream and marshmallows to both before putting them at the table and lifting Matthew to sit in a chair.
'You're going to have to tell me about these zombies Matt,' he said seriously as he gave an equally serious expression.
'I know Daddy, they are scary.' Justin wanted to laugh, to scoop him up in his arms and make sure he never lost that innocence.
'Did you tell them I'd beat them up if they scare you?'
'No, Daddy I was too busy being scared.' he replied as he finished off his marshmallows and got to the hot chocolate. 'Daddy this is hot chocolate!'
'Yeah bud, it scares zombies away didn't you know?' Matthew looked confused before shaking his head. 'Hot chocolate makes people happy and zombies don't like happy things so if they are trying to scare you just be happy and they will leave you alone.'
'Okay Daddy, I'll try that.'
Justin winked at him and they finished their drinks as he told him a very detailed story about the latest episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
'You ready to go back to bed buddy?'
He nodded his head and reached up for Justin to lift him which he happily did. 'Do you need to go pee first?' He squinted his eyes for a second before nodding his head.
Justin kissed him softly as he giggled and kissed him again as they made a quick stop at the bathroom on the way back to his bedroom.
'Daddy?' He asked as Justin turned the door handle to his bedroom and switched on his nightlight.
'Yes?'
'I know I said I scare the monsters but can you make sure there is none here already? I'm sleepy.'
He nodded, not knowing how he could ever deny a request like that.
Once he made sure there were no zombies under his bed and in his wardrobe he tucked him in as he yawned like a little baby lion.
'Daddy, why am I staying at Grandma and Grandpa's tomorrow?'
'Well they want to see you. Why? Do you not wanna go?' He asked a little confused, normally Matthew always wanted to go to Dianna and Eddie's or Pattie's to see her grandparents.
'No I do, but you no going away?'
Justin shook his head. Normally if he and Demi had business out of town Matthew would go to his grandparents but he had been developing anxiety lately about being separated from his parents.
'No Matt we're staying here tomorrow.' he said as he smiled.
'Well can you ask Mommy if I can get a baby sister from the pet store?' Justin looked confused at his sleepy son who had often hinted about his desperation for a sibling, the gender changed with the wind.
'Baby sisters don't come from the pet store Matt, but yes I'll talk to Mommy alright?'
He nodded as he lied down a little and Justin cuddled him close to his body before kissing his nose, cheeks and lips softly.
'Love you Daddy,' Justin would never ever get tired of hearing those words coming from his little mouth. He switched off his night light.
'I love you too Matt.' He shut his door so it was only open a crack and left the hall light on for him before heading back to his and Demi's room.
Climbing back into bed, Demi wrapped herself around him as he kissed her head softly 'Is he okay?' She mumbled, sleepily.
'He's fine, scary dreams and he wants a baby sister from the pet store.'
'Kay...' she mumbled as Justin chuckled before laying back down and switching off their light.
'I love you baby,' he whispered against her lips before joining them softly.
'I love you too Justin.'
