Ever since Jinkyu was a child he was always covered in bruises or wounds for which he had no explanation on how he got them.
He could remember clearly how teachers would always talk to him after school, asking if things at home were okay. If something would happen they made sure he can come to them.
At first he was surprised but as the years passed he grew annoyed by the constant worries about his safety. His parents were nothing but nice to him, they never hurt him in any kind of way. After a while he started to ignore his teachers since he got the feeling they were blaming his parents, while he was the clumsy one.
He couldn't explain the bruises or wounds, it seemed as if they would just pop up wherever he was. One time he was taking a nap while his mother was making dinner, he suddenly woke up with a painful feeling in his finger- only to find out he somehow cut his finger and it was bleeding. He remembered how scared he was- he immediately ran up to his mom in panic as he showed her his finger. To this day he couldn't explain to him mom how he got it.
It went on like this, even now he sometimes woke up with a strange bruise on his arm or with muscle aches.
"Where did you get that from" his friend asked him as he was about to poke the bruise on his arm.
"Hands off Hyunuk" he yelled as he hit the hand away that tried to touch the blue spot on his arm. "I don't know, you know how these things go with me".
Hyunuk simply nodded as he gave his friend a can of orange juice. "I'm not surprised you got another spot, here enjoy".
Jinkyu thankfully accepted the drink from his friend, both of them sitting comfortable on the wooden bench outside of their school. There was a moment of silence between the two of them, just drinking the juice and enjoying the silent moments before school would start again.
He closed his eyes, feeling the warmth of the sun on his skin.
It was nice to have a quiet moment, well until that moment got ruined by a loud voice yelling at them.
"Yo" a low voice said, "Isaac got some news".
Hyunuk raised his eyebrow, "do share why you can't tell us Sungho".
Their friend Sungho just rolled his eyes, taking a seat next to Jinkyu. It was clear to them that he was not in the mood to talk.
The trio turned to face the remaining standing boy, Isaac. He moved his hand through his orange dyed hair before he started speaking.
"We have a transfer student".
"So" Jinkyu commented, standing up to throw away the now empty can.
"She has the exact same scar on her jaw as you do" Isaac continued.
This caught Jinkyu's attention as the older boy looked up confused. Of course it's not odd for a girl to have a scar on her jaw, but on the exact same spot is a little less common.
Then again, he couldn't explain how he got his scar from. All he can remember was that he was ten years old and riding his bike, until a lady urged him to stop because he was bleeding. He didn't know what was going on but told the lady he fell with his bike to prevent her from digging into his life.
"A lot of people have scars, look at Hyunuk- he has one in his neck. Sungho has one on his shoulder" Jinkyu scoffed, ready to walk towards their first class so he could have a quiet moment, alone.
Isaac let out a soft sigh, "I know you don't believe me, but it looks exactly alike", suddenly he felt how his friend grabbed him by his arm. "She also has a bruise here, a small scar on her finger as well. Before you call me a pervert, I only noticed it after shaking hands with her".
"Sure Isaac, and I'm the king of England", with those words he left his friends behind.
It was already weird enough for him to receive scars that he can't explain, and then having his friend make something up was not helping. How he wished that he could tell them he got it after cutting some vegetables.
"She's already in the classroom if you're curious" he heard his orange haired friend yell.
Jinkyu just shook his way as he entered the building.
He had no intention of meeting this girl that they claim has the same scars as he does.
After roaming the still empty hallways he ended up at his classroom, since he had nothing else to do he entered the room. Maybe he take a short nap before class starts.
That's the moment he notices a girl sitting on top of a desk, looking at the window. It seems that she has no idea he was in the room.
Jinkyu cleared his throat to get her attention, "hi, I don't want to be rude but you're sitting on my desk" he told the shocked girl.
She nodded, jumping off his desk. "I'm sorry, I'll just go" she told him shyly.
He watched as she reached for her bag that was laying on the floor- noticing the bruise on her arm, the same spot as his.
"Wait don't go" he told her as he gently grabbed her arm to prevent her from leaving. "My friend told me we have a similar scar, or actually I should say scars. May I?" he asked the confused girl.
She gave him a small nod, not knowing how else to react to the much taller boy.
He flashed her a gentle smile as he brushed her hair behind her ear. When he lightly lifted up her chin, he could lightly see the scar.
"He's right" he mumbled, "do you have a horizontal scar in your neck?".
The girl raised her eyebrow, "how did you know? Nobody knows about the scar in my neck".
"I didn't know. I got mine when I was trying to crawl under barbed wire, I looked up too fast and it scratched my skin", Jinkyu turned around to show her the scar. "It has been ten years but it's still pretty visible".
"Ten years" she asked, "ten years ago my neck was suddenly bleeding, after my mom helped me wash it off she noticed the wound. This one," she pointed at the scar on her jaw, "this happened twelve years ago when I fell off my bike and onto a broke piece of bottle on the street".
Jinkyu raised his eyebrows, "mine happened twelve years ago too, only I can't explain what happened, it just appeared so suddenly".
"It's strange, this sounds like a story my friend once told me" she said with a chuckle, looking up into Jinkyu's eyes. "She told me that there are stories of people having scars or bruises pop out of nowhere, and that it later turned out that they got those because of their soulmate. In our case, the barbed wire- you cut yourself on it and I got the same spot".
Normally Jinkyu would have scoffed and would have called her crazy for even thinking that this could be true. But since he himself had no explanation for this, maybe it could be that what she was saying is true.
"It sounds like a good idea for a book, but who am I to doubt his. At least you have a sort of explanation" he said with a chuckle.
She smiled, "but it's a little soon to call you my soulmate though".
"Simply, then let's get to know each other first, you can figure out later if I'm your soulmate or not" Jinkyu rubbed the back of his neck, for once not knowing how to act. "I'm Jinkyu".
