Out of my Mind

A/N.   [ so before reading this I just want to say that I wrote this after watching the two Mazerunner movies again, it's only a one shot. None of the original characters are in here, just Unit Red. Also the name of the girl; Soyeon, she's named after the first Korean astronaut  who went to space. ]

Freedom, how he wondered what that was like.

After being trapped for two years, he wanted to know what it would be like to life freely. To not be scared of getting stung and going insane.

Most of all he wondered who his parents were. Were they nice people? Do they miss him? He wondered if he had any siblings, and if so- were they in the same situation as he was?

How he wished that he could remember those things, but he knew that wasn't going to happen. None of them had their memory, the only thing they let you keep is your name. He didn't even know how old he was, for all he knows he was already an adult in a teenagers body.

Hechan was watering the crops, wiping the sweat off of his forehead. He had been carrying buckets of water the whole day that he grew tired of doing it. But he knew the rules; everyone does their part. No slackers.

He knows their leader does not appreciate slackers, and if he caught one then you could hear him on the other side of the Glade. 

"Hechan, are you okay" a soft voice asked him.

He smiled a little, putting down a bucket of water. "I can't wait until it's dinner time so I can relax, but it's okay Alex" he told the younger boy as he stretched his back, knowing that his back will feel sore later in the night.

Alex had been here for three days, and the young boy was slowly getting used to his new environment. Their leader had assigned Hechan to look over the boy and teach him all about planting and harvesting the crops.

The younger boy was about to reply until suddenly an alarm went off, they noticed how the other boys dropped the things they were holding before running off. Hechan glanced at Alex who was frowning.

They knew the box was only coming up once a week, and three days ago was the last time the box came up. He remembers clearly because that was the day Alex joined their group.

"Didn't you tell me the box only comes once a week" Alex asked as he dropped his shovel.

Hechan nodded, "I did, it's not supposed to come yet".

The two of them run towards the middle of the Glade to see what the commotion was all about. Of course he was curious about the content, normally it's clothes and supplies they need. But since it has come too early there has to be something special hiding in there.

"Everyone calm down" they heard the authoritative voice of their leader yell, it helped because it immediately got silent. "Sunghyun would you do the honor of opening our little present".

The tallest boy of the group walked up to the front with a smile plastered on his face, "of course Sungho".

The crowd watched carefully how Sunghyun lifted the top off the box, a loud crackling noise was the only thing heard in the whole Glade. Hechan watched how he saw the boy jump into the box, only to let out a shocked sigh.

"Boss" Sunghyun mumbled, "this is weird".

"What is it" yelled Goongwon, one of the guys who had been the longest inside of the Glade.

"It's a girl".

A girl? 

Hechan shook his head, thinking that he misheard Sunghyun. Who in his right mind would send a girl to the Glade that's filled with guys- it made no sense to him.

"Are you sure it's not a feminine looking guy" another Glader asked.

Sunghyun raised his eyebrow, "I might not have seen a girl in ages, but that doesn't mean that I don't know how one looks like. She has boobs and -".

But the poor guy couldn't finish his sentence as their leader slapped the back of the taller ones head. 

"Instead of inspecting her body, why don't you get her out of here. We'll let her rest in the Homestead and wait for her to wake up" Sungho said, "the rest of you go back to what you were doing, Hechan why don't you look over her".

Hechan looked up surprised, never had he expected their leader to pick him to look over the girl- he was only a simple track-hoe. Although Hyunuk had given him some medical training, just the basics.

"He's the only one who's not checking her out" their leader whispered, just loud enough for him to hear.

Hechan had been sitting beside the girl's bed for some time now, but she was still sound asleep. 

"When will she ever wake up" he said with a sigh, he couldn't believe he was saying this, but he preferred to be harvesting right now. It was odd for him to be sitting here and doing nothing- in the two years he has been trapped here he had never sat around doing nothing.

He glanced at the girl again before looking at the door, suddenly he realised something was off. Hechan turned his head back to the girl, seeing how she was looking at him with a look of horror.

"Please don't scream" he whispered.

The girl looked at him with wide eyes, "why not scream? I have no idea where I am or what I am doing here. Who are you? Did you kidnap me?" she asked with a raised voice, which made Hechan flinch slightly. He wanted to take her hand so she would relax, but the response he got made him back off, "don't you touch me, I will scream".

He scoffed, "sure scream, just know that a horde of guys will run into the Homestead. So why not hear out the only sane one of them". A soft snicker escaped from his lips as he stood up, ready to walk away. "Why don't I just call them for you?"/

"No" she yelled at him, her eyes glued to the bed, "I'm sorry".

Feeling satisfied he took a seat next to her again, "it's okay, I'm Hechan. Don't worry if you can't tell me your name, most of us remember our name in a few days of staying here".

"It's Soyeon".

He blinked a few times, not believing what he just heard. It took at least a day for most of them to remember their name, and now they got a girl from the box and she is the only one who immediately knows her name?

How was this fair.

"Oh, it's nice to meet you Soyeon".

Soyeon suddenly grabbed a hold of his hand, "you might not believe me. But you're the key to get out of here, whatever happens I will stay by your side to help you".

There was a moment of silence.

Hechan had a lot to process today, but what she just told him was the tip of the iceberg. He had been here for two years and now he suddenly is the key for their escape. 

"Just moments ago you looked as if you wanted to kill me, you seem a little bipolar".

Soyeon chuckled softly, "I'm sorry, I just woke up in a strange place and I panicked". She turned his hand around, softly rubbing the thick scar on his wrist. "I hope you can one day remember what happened in the past".
