chapter 23

(Lizzy's pov)
"No, no stop." I try to break free but he's just getting more grip on me.
"Please, stop."

I bolt awake.
"Lizzy, Lizzy, are you okay?" I hear Jack ask me. He had his hand on my arm trying to wake me up.

"Y-yeah." I tell him.

"Bad dream?" He asks. I nod my head at him with tears forming in my eyes.

"It's okay, it's over now." He whispers.

"The boys want me back home, are you going to be okay? Logan is still sleeping." I nod my head at him again and he gets up to leave.

"Jack," I say. He turns around.
"Yes?"
"I love you too." He smiles at me as he opens the door and leaves the apartment.

I try to fall back asleep, but I keep getting flashbacks from the day before every time I would close my eyes.

I ended up texting Jonah.
Me: hey, if you could send me the officers' number from yesterday, that'd be great.

He doesn't respond right away so I get out of bed and walk down the stairs to make some breakfast. I was starving because I barely ate anything last night. As I was digging out the leftover tacos, Jonah gets back to me.

Jonah: how are you?

He sends, and then I get the phone number.

Me: ive been better, but i decided to not let it completely ruin my life. and thanks

Jonah: good :)

I call up officer Kelly and she picks up after one ring.
"This is officer Kelly speaking, who's calling?" She says.

"Um, yeah hi. This is Lizzy Paul? I was hoping to talk to you about the case with Matt." I respond.

"Oh, yes! How have you been?"

"Good. When do you think we could have the court date? I'm free pretty much whenever." I tell her.

"You can stop by my office around noon?"

"Sure! I'll see you there." It's only about 9 am right now and I decide to tell Logan the plan after I finish eating.

'Are you sure you want to do this? Theyre gonna ask you exactly what happened." He asks.

"I'm sure. If it'll stop him from doing this to other girls... it'll be worth it."

The next few hours I plan exactly what I'm going to say. Pretty soon it's time to get going to the office.

"Hi, I'm Chloe Paul? I have an appointment with officer Kelly at noon." I say to the lady at the front desk.

"Right down the hall, second door to the left." She points me in the direction and I'm on my way.

I stop in front of the door, making sure I'm ready to do this. I lift my hand up to knock on it just as it opens up.

"Lizzy! Good to see you, come, sit." Kelly motions me to sit down. I give her a small smile.
"So I understand you're trying to press charges against Matt Williams for rape?" She asks me.

"Yes... That's correct." I tell her.

I tell her what happened from my point of view just like I had practiced earlier. I teared up less than thought I would've, surprisingly. We set up a court date a few weeks from today, and she let me go.

I check my phone when I get back in my car and see I got a text from Jonah.

Jonah: hey, just thought id check up on you... how've you been?

Me: i just set up the court date with the officer

Jonah: that's great! when is it?

Me: march 2.
