I was beyond excited. Miss Paige Lilia Carroll herself had volunteered us, just me and her, to hunt a magician.

I could barely stop myself from jumping as she checked her twin pistols before placing them back in her holsters, which, normally, was uncomfortable in a car, but she did it with that extra pinch of experience that made all the difference.

Common clothing looked goo on her two. Tight jean pants and a red V-neck that revealed more than enough of her skin. I was, actually, half tempted to cover her up with a jacket just imagining all the prying eyes that would be on her. She still wore combat boots, but they only accented the outfit. I couldn't tell if there was a gun in them or not. Probably.

She was so perfect. Everything she did had a taste of grace and class. I wanted to be like her when I was older. I mean, I know it'd take me a few years to get as far as she did in four years-  I mean capturing the Queen of Magic herself was brilliant- but I can still go far. I got lucky with this position, right next to my idol.

"The mission will take place about two hours from here in  a city called Naples," she said. "Two magicians, a couple. Reportedly, they're in their mid twenties to early thirties. Neighbors said they didn't know what they were until the house lit up in green flames."

She passed me four photos. A family picture of the two of them, a blond haired woman and dark skinned man, smiling was the first one. The other three were all clearly taken from security cameras- in those pictures they were clearly trying to hide their face.

"How long ago since the incident?"

She checked the watch on her wrist. "Ten hours and forty-two minutes. Forty-three. They're not known for their violence and are more likely to flee than fight so our best option would be to corner them."

"Are they both magicians?" I asked.

She shook her head. "That's unknown. The man, yes, but the woman, we're still unsure of her status. If she's not a magician, she's most likely hiding him which is just as bad. Checking their records, they purchased a gun four years ago, so she likely has that. However, their is the off chance that he's taken her captive, if she's not a magician, so don't discard the idea."

I nodded again.

There was comfy silence for a few moments before she spoke again.

"This isn't your first mission, is it?"

"No, Paige, ma'am. This is my third."

She nodded. "Have you ever killed a magician?"

"I've disarmed and disabled but never killed. Why? Are the orders shoot to kill?"

"No. However, if either one of them intends to kill you, I expect you to strike first and without mercy."

"Of course."

Why did she doubt me?

That was only common sense.

Naples looked like a city that used to be absolutely beautiful and filled with culture. In this day and age, it was falling apart. Buildings were crumbling and falling and the ocean that was probably once lit by the sun was dark with pollution.

Tori and I walked down the street.

She held one of her guns at her side. I didn't even rest my hand on mine.

"This place is probably crawling with magicians. How're we supposed to find them here?"

"People and magicians tend to go back to places that are familiar to them, sometimes even subconsciously, so we'll start with their known favorite stores and restaurants."
