*Leo*
My body was kind of floaty, but it kind of hurt.
The last thing I remembered was calling out for Paige and then someone bursting in and saving my sorry butt.
Paige would be disappointed. All that training and all I could do was get one good punch in. She'll probably be mad when she gets back from her whatever she's doing in a few days. I might have to go back in that cold cage.
Still, it would be better if she was here, even if that is wishful thinking - her job is important to her, after all. No matter how mad she gets, anything is better than the crushing silence of...
Where am I?
I peel my eyes open to stare at the other side of a white room. I'm laying in a comfy bed with warm blankets wrapped around me. There's an IV stuck in my arm, keeping this weird liquid dripping into my arm. What is it really doing, though? Does anyone really know?
My left arm isn't in a cast, more of a brace and a sling. When I breath in, my ribs and lungs hurt. My head's a little sore, and I really hope my pretty face isn't ruined. My legs are weak, when I try to use them to push myself up, and beyond sore. I switch to my good right hand and try to push myself up.
Yeah, that doesn't work well. I get a little leverage before my arm decides, nope, it doesn't wanna do that anymore.
Thankfully the bed is soft and I only get little jolts of pain when I fall back onto it.
Great, I'm useless.
Even more useless than normal.
I could hear Tori laughing at me and poking fun at me for what this.
I could also...hear arguing?
Outside the door that was hidden just little further than I was willing to turn my sore neck. The only reason I knew it was a door was because it slammed open.
"-'s good to go!"
Paige's eyes met mine. She looked out the door to someone who was still yelling, and then proceeded to shut the door in their face.
"You're awake."
I listened for any sign of anger and looked for any sign of violence.
But her beautiful face held as few expressions as usual. I really didn't know if that was a good sign, or if she was contemplating how to kill me without alerting me. Not like there was anything I could do.
"You-you're here," I croaked.
My lips and throat were a little sore. My good hand came up and brushed against it. It felt-
"You're lip's split and your throat's probably dry," she reached to a table on the other side of the room and came back with a cup of what looked like water. "It's not poisoned. I can't believe you'd even think that."
I took and a gratefully chugged it - only choking once when the cold water first hit my throat.
I handed her back the cup. She refilled it for me. This time, I sipped it slowly.
"Why're you surprised?" I answered, unwilling to meet her eyes and see the shame in her gaze. "I messed up, didn't I?"
"What do you mean you 'messed up'?"
"You and Tori put a lot of time into training me."
"You got in a punch, didn't you?"
"Yeah. How could you tell?"
"Your knuckles are bruised. It was probably good hit, too. You managed to make any fingers and that's the classic rookie mistake."
I nodded, a little pride swelling in my chest.
