CHAPTER 29
Fragmentation
-JC-
"You've become twice the enigma I became roommates with."
I cry everytime that statement passes through my mind. I want him to say something to me. Something from deep inside his heart, and not the words that stemmed from this fight. Before I knew it, my heart's thawed ice became frozen again. The ice walls around it began growing back, and for some reason, I couldn't tolerate it. I couldn't tolerate having ice deep inside me again. I wanted warmth, and there's only one person in the world who can give it to me.
And that would have to be Kyousuke Tsukiakari.
"It's nice to be back..." Luke stretched his arms and looked at me. "Don't you feel nice to be back here in the dorms?"
I shook my head. "It reminds me of someone I seriously want to talk to."
He chuckled. "Yeah right." Putting a slice of toasted bread in his mouth, he waved at me. "Aren't you gonna eat?" he asked, his voice muffled. "You've been eating less, and now you're skipping breakfast? That's bad, you know!" he reminded, his voice muffled. "I make all of your favorite food, and yet you don't eat it. What's the problem?"
"Nothing. I just don't feel like eating."
"Is that because of what happened between you and Kyou when I left the two of you in one room?"
"Probably."
He picked up his school bag, swung it over his shoulder and opened the door for me. We walked towards the school together. "Another thing. The exam results are posted on the bulletin today. I bet you're gonna rank first again."
"Who cares? I always do."
"But don't you feel the thrill of seeing your name sitting pretty on top of the others?" He started shaking me by my shoulders. "No," I answered.
Luke put his hands behind his head. "Well, I guess the ice in your heart is back."
"Exactly."
We arrived at the school entrance, where several students were flocking to just so they could see the results. Luke and I had a hard time going through the crowd because it was so thick. When we arrived, I saw my name plastered on rank one. Below it was Kyousuke's name.
"Whoa, never thought Kyousuke is nearly as smart as you."
"Whatevs." I dragged Luke back to the gates and we stepped inside the school. There I saw Kyousuke walking with Erin, and even though she was talking a lot, he kept his eyes down and his mouth shut. Intriguing.
I felt a surge of pain in my stomach, so I held a hand over it. It wasn't grumbling, so that means I'm not hungry. "JC?" Luke asked, his voice full of concern.
"I-it's nothing," I replied, trying my best to stand straight. My body still curled because of the pain, though.
"'It's nothing' my ass." He eyed me suspiciously. "Surely you and Kyou didn't do something--"
"We didn't you idio- ow..."
"Is your dot this week?"
I gave him a confused look. "What?"
"You know, that thing girls have each month..."
"No."
"Seriously. Maybe you're just hungry."
"I'm not. And if I'm hungry, you would've heard my stomach grumble." Another wave of pain went through me. "Ouch..." I reached out for his shoulder and held onto it to support myself. "W-why does it have to be this painful..."
