CHAPTER 28
Reanimation
-Kyousuke-
The day turned to night, and it was time to retire to our rooms. Luke borrowed my towel earlier, so I went to his room and knocked. "Luke?"
"Ssh," came the faint reply.
This aroused my curiosity, so I opened the door and found JC asleep in his arms. He gave me a stressed-out smile. "Even the slightest movement or noise can wake her. Keep quiet and walk here gently."
I did as he said and sat on the space next to him. "How did she end up like that?" I hated how perfectly fitted she was in Luke's arms and how comfortable he looks while doing so. "I asked her about her conversation with you earlier, and it made her cry a lot. She said you didn't want to look at how she is now, and that makes her feel so alone. After a few minutes she crawled up to me like a kitten and resumed crying there. Turns out she cried herself to sleep."
I sighed. "My towel, please." I wanted to leave out the memory of her running away earlier, so I switched the subject.
Luke gave me a smirk. "I won't be able to get it if she's in my arms. What if I give her to you and fetch it? Hmm? And I'll probably leave you two alone after that."
"Just tell me where it is so I can get it already."
"Guys. I don't like the way you avoid each other. Do something. JC doesn't really know how to make up with someone, so you have to make the first move. Just give it a shot, Kyousuke. You have nothing to lose."
Yeah, I know. I know all of that. "JC will kill the both of us."
"Just give it a try. I'll sleep in your room to give you two some privacy."
"Fine." He grinned at me and set a sleeping JC carefully in my arms. "Don't even try to lie down, Kyousuke." He put his arms on the back of his head. "I tried that. It woke her up and she threatened to strangle me." He stood up, went out the door and closed it gently. JC stirred a little. "Luke. Don't move around so much. Who are you talking to, anyway...?"
She probably thinks that Luke is still the one holding her. She probably won't be able to differentiate the voices, so I answered, "No one. Mind if I lie down?"
She nodded irritatedly. "Shut your mouth after you do so. I'm trying to sleep here."
I lay down on the bed and she adjusted in her position so she could snuggle against me. Luke, that lucky bastard. He's so close to her. "Wait," JC mumbled, her eyebrows twitching. She lifted one of her hands and let her fingers run across my hair, my shoulders, my arms and finally, my chest. "Wait. Luke, is this you?"
And she's fully conscious now. I didn't reply since it would become too obvious. She felt around the features of my face. Her mouth curled into a frown. "Don't make me open my eyes, Kyousuke," she said in a scary voice. "Once you make the slightest sound or the littlest of movement, I'll grab that cutter over there and slit your neck. Literally."
I gulped nervously and nodded. She wiggled out of my arms and crawled to the farthest part of the bed with her back facing me. Soon enough she was shuddering because the wind entered the window and hit her back. "Gosh, why does it have to be s-so cold..." she murmured in a small voice. She was giving me the cold shoulder, but I felt in her voice that she desperately wanted some warmth-- both literally and figuratively. However, since she warned me about moving, I stayed still and waited for her to find a way.
"A-argh..." She tried to stand up, but she was too lazy to close the window. She didn't want to close the window for a reason I can actually decipher. I felt myself smiling at the thought of it. "K-k-kyousuke..." she grumbled, turning her body around so she could face me. She reached out a shaking hand in my direction, but let it fall down on the bed with a bounce. "Forget it." She didn't turn away, though, and I admit, she looked cute while snuggled up in the sheets. Her hazel eyes shone in the moonlight, and even though it was faint, I could clearly see how red her face was. She snapped her eyes closed as another shudder ran from her head to her spine. "S-so c-cold..."
