"Hello?... Lauren?... You still at my house?... Well stay there... I'm coming... Ok... I have your car by the way. Logan had it's keys... I'll tell you later... Yeah, yeah love you too... Bye."

I set my phone down and then switch on the indicator. I turn the steering wheel to take an exit to the right on to Crossward Road. Outside of my window I can see the dark sky up above. No stars. No moon. Just the emptiness of a neverending space.

I honk the horn at Travis's Jeep ahead which has slowed down a little. He slowly takes a turn to the right which goes onto his street and sends me a flying kiss through the window while he does so as a goodbye. I smile back and head straight. I drive until I see Lauren's house. I turn into her driveway, then stop in front of her dad's garage. I get out and lock her car.

With her keys in my hand, I walk a few seconds until I can see our mansion. The house my mother built and decorated with her friends after she got promoted as CEO. She worked so hard on it and promised to make it our home instead of just our house. A place we all could always feel safe at. A place we'd build as a family. And now she stepped all over it. Forgetting her endless promises and vows and leaving us to deal with shit all alone while she hangs out and parties.

While I walk to my house, I see Mrs.Dunhill, our neighbour, peering at me with her eyes in murderous slits through the window beside her front door. When she sees me seeing her, she closes her curtain.

Ignoring her, I jog up our stairs and ring the doorbell.

With my head in my left and my torso in my right hand, I wake up. "Everything hurts", I mumble and look out the window. It isn't even morning yet. I roll my eyes and fall back down. Frowning deeply, I get up again and stomp inside the washroom.

And then I sigh. Periods.

I get ready for school early, at 5 am literally, and head down for breakfast. I go to the kitchen and open up the refrigerator. After taking out some MJ, I start drinking it directly from the carton.

"I have a test today."

I scream and spit out all the juice from my mouth. I cough frantically trying to hold back my dinner from spilling as well. "What the hell!?", I say.

"Sorry", Mia yawns and stuffs her face in her maths textbook again.

I walk up to her and take a seat beside her on the couch. All her textbooks lie scattered on the coffee table. She flips through the pages like a bullet and only looks up at me when I cough a little again.

"You look pretty in that. You should start wearing more dresses, Cathryn. And also wear your hair down often. It's like I've almost forgotten you even have hair with all of it always up in buns", she says, her eyes skimming my body.

Nah! Only wear dresses when on your period. The cool air feels good down there... I mean, on the legs.

I shrug. "I don't make it a habit to put work in dressing up."

She gasps. "You did makeup!? Dammit I almost forgot how good you are at it until today! It's unfair! I'm shit at makeup."

I start laughing and then bend forward to ruffle her hair. "It's unfair that you're smarter than me."

"Oh c'mon! You got straight As last year, remember?"

"Not this year", I laugh, "besides, you got all A stars."

"Well, yeah!" She flips her hair over her shoulder and we start laughing.

I lean in to whisper in her ear, "I've got news."
