Chapter 18

Nicole's P.O.V

Its been a rough four years. I haven't been back to Compton since I left there the last time and it hurts. I left on the 29th of December 2010 when the 'man' I loved and thought loved me went and cheated on me. And on September 14th, 2011 I gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, Nathan and Kennedy. I never knew how it was to live without a father, but I knew that I didn't want to let my children experience it. I'm now in my first year of college and the twins are 3 and I'm their first year of school.

"You two ready to go" I asked the twins placing a bowl of Fruity Pebbles in front of their faces, they were addicted to it, just like Kendrick.

"Yeah, but why do we have to go to school today, mama" Kennedy said dragging her words like normal.

"Because, you need to get a proper education." "Nathan, why are you so quiet to day" I said monitoring him closely.

"In school our teacher gave us a family tree and she said put your mommy and daddy in it. I told her I don't have a daddy and all the kids started laughing at me" he started to slur his words, I rarely saw this side to him but when I did it meant he was really hurt.

"Mommy where is our daddy" Kennedy asked with her faces confused.

I hated when they put me on the spot like this. I grabbed my computer and sat it in front of them.

"Alright, you remember that song Don't Kill My Vibe."

"Yes, when we went on your computer to listen to it because our friends were singing it and you told us it was a bad song"

"Yes, and remember when you saw the picture of the man who song it was"

"Yup, and I said he looked like Nathan" Kennedy giggled.

I forced a fake smile. " Well guys, that's your father"

With that they couldn't stop freaking out.

"Mommy, can we see him, can we see him please."

"Well guys I'm not sure if he wants to see us."

"Mommy" Kennedy started dragging again. "We'll never know if we don't go" I remember when I had the eagerness she does.

"Um, um, okay I guess we can go this weekend. But you two hurry up and eat your cereal you still have school"

"Now I can tell my friends I do have a dad" Nathan laughed.

I giggled. These kids were my world and I would do anything to see them happy. Even if it meant I had to face my biggest fear. Coming face to face with my heart's killer........ Kendrick Lamar Duckworth.
